2026 NFL Draft: 6 Teams Dominate First Round, 6 Left Behind

Overview of the 2026 NFL Draft

The 2026 NFL Draft is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing drafts in recent years, with a notable shift in the distribution of first-round picks. Six teams will have two first-round selections, while another six teams will not have any first-round picks at all. This marks a significant departure from the previous year’s draft, where each team had its first-round pick determined by the 32-team order.

Teams with Multiple First-Round Picks

Several teams have positioned themselves well for the 2026 draft, thanks to strategic trades and moves. The New York Giants are among the most prominent teams with two first-round picks, holding the 5th and 10th overall selections. This position gives them a strong opportunity to make a major impact in the draft.

The Miami Dolphins also have two first-round picks, with the 11th and 30th selections. This came about due to the trade involving Jaylen Waddle. Similarly, the New York Jets are set to have their number 2 overall pick, along with the Colts’ number 16 pick, as a result of the Sauce Gardner trade.

The Dallas Cowboys, who previously had a high pick due to Micah Parsons, now hold the 12th and 20th picks after trading him to the Green Bay Packers. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs have secured their own first-round pick at number 9, as well as the Rams’ number 29 pick, following the Trent McDuffie trade.

The Cleveland Browns now have the 6th overall pick and the Jaguars’ 24th pick, which allowed the Jags to move up and select Travis Hunter. This has created an interesting dynamic between the two teams.

Teams Without First-Round Picks

On the other end of the spectrum, six teams will not have any first-round picks in the 2026 draft. These teams include the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, and Jacksonville Jaguars. This absence of first-round selections could impact their ability to make significant additions to their rosters.

It’s worth noting that the Las Vegas Raiders were poised to be the seventh team with two first-round picks, but the Maxx Crosby trade fell through, altering their draft strategy.

Implications for the Draft

The uneven distribution of first-round picks sets the stage for a highly competitive and unpredictable draft. Teams with multiple picks will have more opportunities to address their needs, while those without picks may need to rely on later selections or free agency to strengthen their rosters.

This unique setup highlights the importance of strategic planning and trade negotiations in the NFL. As teams prepare for the 2026 draft, the focus will be on maximizing their draft capital and making impactful selections that can shape the future of their franchises.
