Ikorodu Celebrates Grand Finale of Spires 5-a-side Naija Street Soccer Tournament

Ikorodu witnessed a vibrant celebration on Saturday as the grand finale of the Spires 5-a-side Naija Street Soccer Tournament unfolded at Deeonis Football Courts, Ota-Ona. The event attracted a large crowd of football enthusiasts and spectators, all eager to witness the final match that would determine the champions of the tournament.

The final match was a thrilling spectacle, with Orion and Leon Football Club emerging victorious against New Generation FC with a commanding score of 7-0. This win marked their second consecutive championship in Ikorodu, showcasing their dominance in the local football scene.

The winning team, led by Coach Biyi Adesonya, was awarded N500,000 as champions, while New Generation FC received N300,000 as runners-up. Diamond Football Club, who secured the third position, took home N100,000. In addition, Samuel Emmanuel from Orion and Leon FC was recognized as the top scorer of the tournament and received a prize of N50,000.

All three teams—Orion and Leon FC, New Generation FC, and Diamond Football Club—will represent the Ikorodu Division at the state tournament scheduled for October. This opportunity highlights the significance of the tournament in identifying and nurturing local talent.

Dr Bankole Allibay, the organizer of the tournament, expressed his satisfaction with the overall success of the competition in Ikorodu. He emphasized the commitment to improving the standard of the tournament in other divisions in the future.

“We have started well in Ikorodu, and the projection is to improve on the standard in other divisions. Congratulations to the top three teams in Ikorodu. We look forward to seeing them at the state championship,” Allibay stated.

The Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer divisional championship will soon move to Epe, where it will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026. This continuation of the tournament underscores its growing popularity and the enthusiasm it generates among football lovers across different regions.

The tournament not only serves as a platform for local teams to showcase their skills but also fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among participants and fans alike.
