Celebrating a Visionary: Kunle Soname’s 60th Birthday Honors an Extraordinary Nigerian

The 60th birthday celebration of Mr. Kunle Soname, the owner of ValueJet Airline, was a grand affair that brought together leaders, dignitaries, and friends from across Nigeria. The event, held at Ereke Civic Centre in Ikenne Remo, was attended by notable figures such as the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, and the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Both governors praised Soname for his remarkable contributions to entrepreneurship, sports, and philanthropy.

A Legacy of Leadership and Humility

Governor Abiodun highlighted Soname’s role as an icon of entrepreneurial drive and a humanist who has impacted countless lives through his ventures in aviation, sports, and philanthropy. He described Soname as a humble individual who remains committed to national development despite his achievements. “He is dependable, reliable, accountable, transparent, and very loyal to friendship,” Abiodun said.

Soname, who previously served as Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, was instrumental in the transformation of the Gateway International Airport. Abiodun emphasized that the project was initiated and completed by his administration, with Soname playing a crucial role. “The first commercial flight that took off from that airport was ValueJet,” he noted.

Abiodun also recalled Soname’s support during the 2019 governorship election and his contributions to sports development in the state. He prayed for continued divine preservation, sound health, and greater impact for the celebrant.

A Man of Honor and Grace

Governor Sanwo-Olu echoed similar sentiments, describing Soname as a man of honor and a “product of grace.” He praised Soname for his positive impact on humanity and his commitment to promoting Nigeria’s economic growth. “You have brought many positive things to the table, and we pray that Almighty God will continue to preserve you for many more wonderful years in sound health,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Other dignitaries at the event included Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Daisi Elemide; Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade; and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu. Additionally, several lawmakers and representatives were present, including Princess Adesola Elegbeji, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, and Senators Gbenga Ashafa, Wasiu Eshinlokun, Olorunimbe Mamora, and Lekan Mustapha.

Contributions to Sports and Philanthropy

Olopade commended Soname’s contributions to sports development and urged him to sustain his support for the sector. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with God, which Soname has consistently done.

The Bishop of Remo Diocese, Methodist Church Nigeria, Rev Bamidele Ibikunle, described Soname as a product of grace and urged him to remain steadfast in his relationship with God.

A Night of Music and Celebration

The celebration featured gospel performances by BJ Sax, Yinka Alaseyori, Gbenjo, and Tope Alabi, among others. The event was not only a tribute to Soname’s accomplishments but also a reflection of the deep respect and admiration he has earned from those around him.
