More Storm Struggles as Hughes Excluded

Storm’s Struggles Continue as Jahrome Hughes Sidelined

Melbourne Storm’s halfback, Jahrome Hughes, has been cleared of a wrist injury but will still miss the team’s upcoming match against the Dolphins. This comes after he failed his head injury assessment, which means he will have to go through concussion protocols.

This latest setback adds to the challenges the Storm are facing as they continue to struggle on the field. The team is currently only ahead of the winless Dragons in the league standings, following their sixth consecutive loss on Saturday. Their perfect home record against the Rabbitohs was also shattered during that game.

Hughes showed signs of discomfort with his wrist during the second half of the match at AAMI Park. However, scans revealed no significant injuries. Despite this, the representative halfback will not be available for the Round 9 game against the Dolphins due to a head knock sustained during the game.

Tyran Wishart is expected to take Hughes’ place in the halves for the upcoming match. The Storm confirmed the news, stating:

“Hughes’ initial assessments of his wrist show no significant injury and will continue to be assessed throughout the week, however the halfback failed his HIA and will enter concussion protocols.”

Losing Hughes is a major blow for the Storm, especially given the team’s recent struggles. This marks the first time under coach Craig Bellamy that the team has suffered six consecutive losses. The defeat to the Rabbitohs on Saturday night was particularly disappointing, as the team looked far from being in contention for finals football.

“I think it’s probably the most embarrassed I’ve ever been in my footy life to be quite honest,” Bellamy admitted.

“There are obviously a few things the off-field staff is doing wrong and I’m included in that, so obviously I’m not doing my job as well as I should be… but to come up with a performance like that and a lack of effort like that on Anzac Day is embarrassing.

“I can’t say too much more than that.”

Impact on the Team and Future Outlook

The loss of Hughes, combined with the team’s poor performance, raises concerns about the Storm’s ability to turn their season around. With Bellamy at the helm, the pressure is on the entire squad to improve quickly and regain their form.

The team’s next challenge will be against the Dolphins, and it remains to be seen whether they can bounce back from their recent slump. The absence of Hughes could affect the team’s dynamics, especially in the halves, where his experience and leadership are crucial.

Fans and analysts alike are watching closely to see if the Storm can find a way to reverse their fortunes. With key players sidelined and a lack of consistent performances, the road ahead looks challenging.

For now, the focus will be on recovery and preparation for the upcoming matches. The Storm will need to regroup and address the issues that have led to their current struggles. Only time will tell if they can make the necessary adjustments to climb back up the ladder.
