A Message of Peace and Hope
Bruce Springsteen, known for his powerful music and deep connection with the American spirit, opened his concert on Sunday, April 26 with a heartfelt message. During his performance at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, he expressed gratitude for the safety of President Donald Trump following a recent incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
“We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women overseas, we pray for their safe return,” Springsteen said as he took the stage. “We also send out a prayer of thanks that our President, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone attending, was injured at last night’s incident at the (White House Correspondents’ Dinner).”
The event, which took place on Saturday, April 25, was held at the Washington Hilton and attended by President Trump, his wife Melania Trump, and members of the Trump administration. Law enforcement officials reported that a man with multiple weapons charged a security checkpoint in a lobby outside the hotel ballroom. The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California, was arrested at the scene.
Commitment to Peaceful Resistance
In his speech, Springsteen emphasized the importance of peaceful resistance and the rejection of political violence. He stated, “We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs, but there is no place in any way, shape, or form for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States.”
This message aligns with the themes of his current tour, the Land of Hope and Dreams Tour, which began on March 31 in Minneapolis. While the tour includes pointed critiques of the Trump administration, Springsteen consistently urges his audience to engage in peaceful activism.
“Find a way to take aggressive, peaceful action to defend our country’s ideals and as the great civil rights leader John Lewis said, ‘Go out and get into some good trouble,’” Springsteen said at the close of each show.
