A Tragic Loss of a Young Mother
Kali Blundell, a 32-year-old woman who was just five months into her journey as a mother, passed away in mid-April after suffering a brain aneurysm. Her death has left her husband, Brandon, and their newborn daughter, Ruby, devastated. Kali was on maternity leave with Ruby and Brandon when the unexpected tragedy occurred.
The incident took place while Kali was working out at a gym in North Sydney. She experienced a sudden medical emergency that led to her hospitalization. Despite receiving care, she passed away after spending a week in the hospital. In a final act of kindness, Kali donated her organs to help five other patients.
A Heartbreaking Reality
Kali’s friend, Sarah Porter, started a GoFundMe campaign to assist with some of the medical and funeral costs associated with her passing. The couple had been together since they were 15 years old, having met in their hometown of Canberra. Their relationship was built on love and shared experiences.
Ms. Porter described the loss as a deep hole in the hearts of all who knew Kali. “Brandon and Ruby should have so many more years with Kali, and now face an incredibly heart-breaking new reality without her here,” she said.

A Life Full of Energy and Joy
Kali was known for her ambitious nature and vibrant personality. Ms. Porter described her as “ambitious and full of life.” She was not only smart but also someone others could turn to for advice. Kali worked hard and never avoided challenges. However, she also enjoyed life to the fullest, bringing joy through her dance moves, love for music, and cheeky personality.
“She brought so much joy in the world,” Ms. Porter said. “The world is a little less bright without her.”
Supporting the Family Through Hard Times
The GoFundMe campaign aims to ease the financial burden on Kali’s family during this difficult time. The funds will be used to cover funeral and medical costs, as well as support Brandon in taking the time he needs to grieve and care for Ruby. It is also intended to help him navigate life without his soulmate.
“Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and give this family one less thing to worry about as they face the days ahead,” Ms. Porter wrote. “Thank you for wrapping this family in love, kindness, and support when they need it most.”
Understanding Brain Aneurysms
A brain aneurysm occurs when a weakened spot in an artery in the brain causes blood to pool, leading to a bulge. This can put pressure on tissues and nerves, and if it ruptures, it becomes life-threatening.
Pregnancy, especially during the third trimester and postpartum period, increases the risk due to hormonal changes, blood pressure fluctuations, and water retention. However, these cases are still rare, with about 3 to 11 occurrences per 100,000 pregnancies, according to Healthline.
Early detection is crucial. Symptoms may include sudden intense headaches, seizures, vision changes, pain or numbness in the face or eye area, and sensitivity to light. If caught early, treatment is usually effective.
