Beloved Netflix Legal Drama Concludes After Five Seasons

The Lincoln Lawyer is Set to Conclude with Its Fifth Season

Netflix has announced that The Lincoln Lawyer will come to an end with its fifth season. After four successful years on the streaming platform, the beloved legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will conclude with its next installment, which is currently in production.

In a statement, co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez shared their thoughts on the decision: “All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is, of course, bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future.”

They added: “We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves. We can’t wait to share it with you!”

A Story Rooted in Michael Connelly’s Novels

Based on the novels by Michael Connelly, the popular series centers on Garcia-Rulfo’s character, Mickey Haller, who works as an attorney from the back seat of his Lincoln sedan. Connelly’s premise also inspired the 2011 film starring Matthew McConaughey.

The show’s forthcoming final season will be based on Connelly’s seventh book in the series, Resurrection Walk. This installment features actor Cobie Smulders as Mickey’s long-lost half-sister, who asks him for help in freeing a wrongfully convicted woman.

Returning Cast and New Additions

In addition to Garcia-Rulfo and Smulders, cast members Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole and Angus Sampson will return for the fifth and final season, along with recurring guest stars Neve Campbell, Krista Warner, Angelica Marie and Gigi Zumbado. Newcomers Amy Aquino, Angela Trimbur, Elpidia Carillo, Nate Corddry, Tricia Helfer and Keir O’Donnell are also joining the cast.

A Successful Run on Netflix

The Lincoln Lawyer’s season five renewal was confirmed a week before season four premiered in February. The most recent installment went on to spend four weeks on the platform’s worldwide top 10 English-speaking series with more than 26.4 million views in that time, according to Netflix.

A release date for season five’s 10 new episodes has not yet been announced.

Other Series Also Ending

The news comes just days after Netflix announced the ending of another huge series, The Night Agent, which was 2023’s most-watched show globally on Netflix upon its release.

Creator Shawn Ryan said in a statement that the fourth season of the thriller series would be its final one, saying: “Ever since the initial success of The Night Agent, I’ve been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland’s journey…We are hard at work to complete our story and to make our final season one our fans will never forget.”
