Donna Mills, 85, fires back at age-related comments

A Bold Statement on Aging and Self-Expression

Donna Mills, a TV legend with a career spanning decades, recently made headlines after responding to a comment that criticized her appearance. The 85-year-old actress took to social media to address the criticism head-on, turning it into a powerful message about self-expression and aging.

In a video posted on Instagram, Mills addressed an online troll who accused her of “wearing too much make-up” for someone her age. Dressed in a traditional old lady costume, she posed the question: “Did you want me to look like this?” Her response was both defiant and empowering: “Sorry not sorry. I like the way I look. This is my style, and style doesn’t have an expiration date. Does it?”

The video quickly went viral, receiving over 124,000 likes and positive comments from fellow celebrities such as Viola Davis, Star Jones, Elizabeth Berkley, Jennifer Aydin, Laura Benanti, and Finola Hughes. Mills shared her thoughts on the Tamron Hall Show, where she reflected on the impact of the post.

“It’s not just about me. It’s about women in general and the way women feel about themselves,” she said. “It’s a new age now. We’re living longer, and we can be healthier. So, this isn’t like the end. You don’t hit 70 or 75 or 80 and it’s over.”

Mills emphasized that confidence and self-expression are essential for women of all ages. She admitted that while she feels good when she looks good, she also acknowledges the imperfections she sees in the mirror. However, she remains determined to embrace her style and encourage others to do the same.

Her bold approach to aging has inspired many. Mills relies on makeup artist Brett Freedman to help her achieve her look, and she works closely with stylist René Horsch to select her outfits. For the video, she wore a wavy blonde wig over her natural white hair and a lavender pantsuit that perfectly complemented her personality.

As a grandmother, Mills has a unique perspective on life. She became a grandmother when her adopted daughter Chloe Nicole Collings and her husband Travis welcomed their son Colter. Her role as a mother and grandmother adds depth to her message about aging and self-worth.

Mills is set to appear in the psychological thriller Abused, which will be released this summer. In the film, she plays Dr. Karen Carden, a character involved in a story about six survivors of abuse being re-traumatized by a madman. This role showcases her continued relevance in the entertainment industry.

In addition to her upcoming film, Mills has been active in television. Last year, she guest-starred as Olivia in an episode of ABC’s Doctor Odyssey titled “Sophisticated Ladies Week.” She has also appeared in several feature films, including Ava DuVernay’s Origin (2023), Jordan Peele’s Nope (2022), David O. Russell’s Joy (2015), and Clint Eastwood’s Play Misty for Me (1971).

Mills is best known for her role as the villainous Abby Cunningham on CBS’ Knots Landing, a soap opera that ran from 1980 to 1993. She also appeared in the 1997 miniseries Back to the Cul-de-Sac. Her other soap opera credits include General Hospital (2014–2022) and Love Is a Many Splendored Thing (1967–1973).

Through her work and public statements, Mills continues to challenge societal norms around aging and beauty. Her message is clear: style has no age limit, and every woman deserves to feel confident and empowered at any stage of life.
