Germany World Cup Roster Revealed: Date and Time of Nagelsmann’s Announcement

Germany’s Quest for Redemption at the 2026 World Cup

Germany has a lot to prove when they head to the 2026 World Cup, having struggled to advance from the group stage in the last two tournaments. This time around, coach Julian Nagelsmann is under pressure to deliver a strong performance in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The national team faced significant embarrassment in Qatar and Russia, and now they are determined to make a statement.

Despite not being considered strong favourites to win the tournament, Germany still has a wealth of talent that could see them challenge for the latter stages if everything comes together. Below are the key details on when we will find out who Nagelsmann has selected for his final roster.

When is Germany’s World Cup Roster Announcement?

The Germany squad for the World Cup is set to be announced on Thursday, May 21. Originally scheduled for May 12, Nagelsmann decided to delay the announcement until after the Bundesliga season ended.

According to FIFA regulations, teams must submit a provisional list of players by May 11, with the final, reduced list due no later than May 30. You can read more about the squad regulations for the World Cup here.

How Many Players Are in Germany’s World Cup Roster?

The final squad must include at least 23 players and no more than 26. Additionally, at least three of these players must be goalkeepers.

Nagelsmann is not expected to make major changes to the roster he named for the March internationals, but he has hinted that there could be one or two unexpected selections based on player form. Up to 27 team officials will accompany the squad.

Can Germany Replace Players in Their World Cup Roster?

Teams are allowed to make changes to their squad due to injury or illness up to 24 hours before their first match of the tournament. Medical proof of the reason for the withdrawal must be submitted to FIFA for approval.

Germany’s Group E opener against Curacao is scheduled for June 14 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. This means any replacements would need to be arranged by June 13. After that, the squad is fixed for the tournament.

There is an exception for goalkeepers: if any of the three are injured or ill and have to withdraw, they can be replaced by another goalkeeper from the provisional list at any stage of the competition (again, subject to FIFA approval).

Where Is Germany’s World Cup Hotel and Training Camp?

Germany will be based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for their World Cup campaign. Nagelsmann, the players, and the staff will stay at the Graylyn Estate Hotel, a historic country estate over a century old. The hotel features an on-site outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts, plus — according to its website — “unlimited complementary ice cream.”

The hotel is a short distance from Wake Forest University, where Germany will hold training sessions. They will also use the Sutton Sports Performance Center, which opened in 2019.
