Arsenal target Man Utd’s Fernandes in transfer move

Arsenal have shown interest in acquiring West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer, potentially ahead of Manchester United. The former Southampton player has had a strong season with the Hammers, but if West Ham are unable to avoid relegation, they may struggle to keep hold of one of their key players.

Manchester United are looking to revamp their midfield following Casemiro’s departure, which has left a significant gap in their central area. With Manuel Ugarte’s future uncertain, Kobbie Mainoo will be the only senior midfielder available for selection. Throughout the season, the club has been considering options such as Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba. Additionally, they have expressed interest in Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni.

Fernandes is gaining attention from several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain. According to reports, Arsenal are also considering a move for the West Ham star as they aim to strengthen their midfield options. Mikel Arteta has relied on Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Martin Odegaard as his primary midfield trio this season, but there is a need for more depth in the middle of the park.

Odegaard has faced injury challenges this season, while Zubimendi has also struggled with the demands of the long campaign. Myles Lewis-Skelly has recently been brought into the midfield as an alternative option. Christian Norgaard was signed from Brentford last summer but has only managed 56 minutes in the Premier League this season.

West Ham secured Fernandes in a £42 million deal last summer. He has contributed four goals and three assists in 35 appearances for the Hammers this season. Currently, West Ham sit in 18th place, just two points behind Tottenham with games remaining for both teams.

The Hammers’ fate is dependent on their upcoming fixtures, including a trip to Newcastle United and a home match against Leeds. They are also hoping for a positive result from their upcoming game against London rivals Chelsea.
