Bosnich: ‘Life or Death’ for Legend in FA Cup Showdown

The FA Cup: A Timeless Tradition

The FA Cup is a unique and cherished competition in the world of football. As the oldest national football cup in the world, it has a rich history dating back to its first victory by Wanderers FC in 1872. While the excitement around the final may not be as intense in Australia as it once was, due to the growing popularity of the Premier League, the stakes for both Manchester City and Chelsea remain high.

Football’s new home, Stan Sport, is the only place where fans can watch the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, WSL, European World Cup qualifiers, J.League, NSWL, and K League. This makes it a must-watch for football enthusiasts across the country.

City manager Pep Guardiola described Sunday’s final (midnight kickoff AEST) as “like life or death.” This is City’s fourth consecutive appearance in the final, showcasing their consistent performance over the years. Guardiola won the 2023 edition against Manchester United but faced setbacks in 2024 and last year against Crystal Palace. On the other hand, Chelsea last won the FA Cup in 2018 and have lost three finals at Wembley since then.

City has already secured the League Cup this season and is expected to claim another trophy at Wembley. For Chelsea, winning this match is crucial to qualify for Europe, as they have struggled in the league and currently sit ninth.

Two teams with a lot to play for, and one team in City who are in excellent form. Anyone who has watched their recent games against Brentford and Crystal Palace will attest to their dominance. Chelsea, however, have been in very poor form and have had a turbulent season. Their last league win was way back in March when they beat Aston Villa 4-1 away.

They also haven’t beaten Manchester City in their last 14 games since 2021, indicating a challenging period for the team. Despite this, the FA Cup is known for its surprises, making it an exciting competition. If you haven’t been watching much football this season, keep an eye on Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer, who are exceptional attacking players.

For City, Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki are in top form. However, in big games, it’s often someone unexpected who steals the spotlight and becomes the match winner.

It was great to see Phil Foden return to form against Palace with two assists, including that sublime backheel for Antoine Semenyo’s goal. This highlights the depth of City’s squad coming off the bench. Pep has his teams primed to deliver at the business end of the season, and he is doing it again.

We’ve heard different stories about whether this might be Pep’s last season or not. But if it is, what a wonderful way to finish it would be by winning at least two trophies.

I’m going for City. I think they’ll have too much for them, they’re playing too well. They’re on a roll, they’re primed to win games, and I think they’ll have a little bit too much for them. But I’ve really got a feeling it’s going to be a cracking final, and I can’t wait to bring you all the buildup from 11.30pm AEST on Saturday.

Arsenal’s Pursuit of Glory

‘NOTHING IS FINISHED’

Arsenal continues their march towards what they hope will be a drought-breaking title when they host Burnley on Tuesday (AEST). On paper, this should be an easy game against a Burnley team that has already been relegated to the Championship. However, manager Mikel Arteta is keeping his wits about him.

“Nothing is finished. It’s still not certain whether we are going to win the Premier League or not,” Arteta said. “We still have two more games to play, and in this league anything can happen.”

I think they will hold their nerve and win the league. I believe they will beat Burnley and beat them quite convincingly. Then it will come down to the last game because I see City winning at Bournemouth next week.

It has been a wonderful squad effort from Arsenal this season, but I’d like to give a shout out to teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly, who has been immense in his last three games as a starter. Their bench is just so strong, with players like Zubimendi, Mosquera, Odegaard, Havertz, Madueke, Hincapie, Martinelli, and young Dowman.

Those players are walking into the starting XIs of most Premier League clubs. What a good man management job Arteta has done, because having those types of big players on the bench is not easy to manage, especially when he gets to this time of the season. Everyone wants to play in the really big games. Not everyone can.
