Matthew Perry’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, expressed her deep anguish and betrayal in a heartfelt letter addressed to Kenneth Iwamasa, the assistant who will begin his jail sentence on Wednesday, May 27, for his role in administering drugs that led to the actor’s death. The letter, obtained by a news outlet, reveals a mix of personal memories and painful reflections as Iwamasa faces the consequences of his actions.

Morrison began her letter with a tender recollection of Matthew’s childhood, sharing how he used to call her “Momma-Mooma” while she affectionately nicknamed him “Matso” and “Manew.” These endearing terms highlight the close bond between mother and son, which was tragically severed by the devastating effects of addiction.

The letter also acknowledges the challenges Matthew faced throughout his life due to his addiction. Morrison described how he fought against it for more than half his life, often relapsing but always returning to try again. She emphasized that despite these struggles, Matthew remained “my heart and soul” until his untimely death from a ketamine overdose in October 2023 at the age of 54.

Morrison expressed her deep disappointment in Iwamasa, someone who had been part of Matthew’s life for 25 years. She stated, “Matthew trusted Kenny. We trusted Kenny.” According to her, Iwamasa’s primary responsibility was to be Matthew’s companion and guardian in his fight against addiction. “His number one responsibility was to ensure that Matthew remained what he wanted to be: drug free,” she explained.

However, Iwamasa failed in this critical role. Morrison claimed that he “shot the drugs into Matthew’s body, though he was not in the least qualified.” She further revealed that Iwamasa initially denied any involvement in Matthew’s death, even going so far as to send her songs and a map to help her navigate the cemetery after the funeral.
As reported by OK!, Iwamasa pleaded guilty in 2024 to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, which resulted in Matthew’s death. He was the one who administered the fatal dose to the 17 Again star and admitted to attempting to cover up his role in the tragedy.
Another key figure in this case, Jasveen “Ketamine Queen” Sangha, who was the actor’s drug dealer, was sentenced in April to 15 years in prison. Her conviction underscores the broader implications of the tragic events surrounding Matthew Perry’s death.
Morrison’s letter serves as a powerful reminder of the devastation caused by addiction and the trust that can be broken. She concluded by stating, “We trusted a man without a conscience, and my son paid the price.” Her words reflect the profound grief and sense of betrayal that continue to haunt her.
