The Untold Story of ‘Gen V’ Season 3
The spin-off series ‘Gen V’, a part of the ‘The Boys’ universe, was canceled after just two seasons. However, its creator, Erik Kripke, has recently shared insights into what could have been for the third season. According to Kripke, the story was set up to continue directly from the explosive finale of the second season.
This potential third season would have taken the young supes on a journey that was far more than just another chapter in their college life. Kripke mentioned that the finale was designed to introduce Marie as the next major “good supe” following Annie. This development would have carried forward some of the most significant unresolved threads from the ‘The Boys’ universe.

In an interview with Variety, Kripke discussed the ending of ‘The Boys’ and his vision for ‘Gen V’ season 3 before the show was canceled. While ‘The Boys’ has concluded, the franchise will continue through the upcoming prequel ‘Vought Rising’.
Despite the cancellation, Kripke emphasized that the finale left behind several storylines that could still make sense in the future. The return of Stan Edgar as Vought’s interim CEO, Hughie and Annie’s child, and the changing role of superheroes in the world all created new possibilities. When asked about these threads, Kripke shifted the focus to Marie and the ‘Gen V’ characters.
“You have Stan Edgar basically disavowing relationships with superheroes,” Kripke explained. “These people who have been coddled and protected this whole time are now suddenly out in the wild. Who tries to be Jessica Jones, and who tries to be a supervillain?”
At the center of this chaos would have been the ‘Gen V’ kids. They would have had to confront an unstable society where institutions keep falling apart, and heroes lean more towards darker paths.
“The plot challenges they would have had to deal with were almost a metaphor for being a young adult, which is like you’re out in the world and there’s no infrastructure or jobs anymore,” Kripke revealed. He wanted the young supes to be responsible for building the future.

Even though ‘Gen V’ season 3 was canceled, Kripke has not abandoned these ideas. In another interview with The Wrap, he said, “I don’t want to give away too much, because we’re honestly hoping to fold it into some other projects.” Although the third season is over, Kripke is still not giving up on the young supes. The writers hope to weave their stories into future projects set in ‘The Boys’ universe.
Kripke also revealed one larger theme that fascinated him the most. “Every young superhero coming out of that school thought they were going to have a steady job. And then suddenly companies that are too big to fail fail.” He stated. “Now none of them have jobs, and none of them can pay rent. And there’s all these superheroes loose in the city. And some are going to choose to be good, and some are going to be bad.”
He compared this directly to the anxieties faced by many real-life college graduates. Especially when they try to build a future in a system that no longer feels secure. These feel like very relevant topics to Kripke that he wants to explore more in the future.
“I’m hoping to get some of this energy into other projects,” He stated.
So, now only time will tell where these characters will pop up next. Because, according to Kripke, the door remains wide open for the ‘Gen V’ to appear in future spin-offs or stories set in ‘The Boys’ universe.
