Alan Shearer has praised departing Liverpool defender Andy Robertson as “one of the best signings in Premier League history.”
Robertson and Mohamed Salah both played their final games for the Reds in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Brentford. That point secured Liverpool’s place in next season’s Champions League, as Arne Slot’s side finished fifth in the Premier League just 12 months after winning the title.
Signed from Hull City for £8m in 2017, Robertson was a key player for Liverpool for almost a decade, making 378 appearances for the Anfield club. He helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and three domestic cups during his time on Merseyside.
“I think pound for pound, he’s one of the best signings the Premier League has seen,” said England legend Shearer on BBC’s Match of the Day.
“In terms of what Liverpool paid for him… what was it, £8m? For what he’s given to Liverpool and the way he’s played…”

“Everything about him in terms of being the ultimate professional has just been first-class. I go back to the fee and it was incredible value for money.”
Ex-Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney also praised the departing Liverpool legend. He added: “When you think about Liverpool when they had Andy Robertson on one side and Trent Alexander-Arnold on the other, they were an absolute nightmare to play against.
“Jordan Henderson gets a lot of praise for being the leader in that great Liverpool team as captain, but I think players like Robertson were a massive part of that off the pitch as well.”

Robertson received a standing ovation and was surrounded by his teammates when he was subbed off during Liverpool’s final-day draw with Brentford.
On the reception he received, Robertson said: “These guys come and support us every single week.
“I’ve been here nine years and we’ve played in front of a sell-out crowd at Anfield and full away ends every game.
“I’m emotionally drained. It’s been a busy week trying to keep your emotions in check and saying bye to those you need to say bye to.
“In years to come, we know we’re both [Mohamed Salah] welcome back to this football club. This is a big chapter in our book, but it’s not the end.
“First and foremost, we have to switch off and focus on the World Cup. I know this is our family and we’ll be welcome back.”
Liverpool are sticking with under-fire boss Slot despite a dismal title defence but will demand quick improvements following a disappointing campaign.
