Teen girl severely injured in tragic science class accident

A Tragic Science Experiment at Greeneview High School

A 15-year-old student from Jamestown, near Dayton in Ohio, suffered severe burns during a science experiment gone wrong at Greeneview High School. Chloe Walker was involved in a chemistry experiment when an unexpected explosion occurred, resulting in burns covering 45% of her body. The incident has left the community shocked and deeply concerned about her well-being.

According to reports, the experiment involved a chemical similar to ethanol that was used on paper to create a small flame. Silvercreek Township Fire Chief Steve Payton described the event as a simple science demonstration. However, the outcome was far more serious than anticipated.

Walker’s airways were compromised, and she sustained burns around her mouth and face. The injuries were primarily concentrated on the upper torso, arms, and face, leading to her being in critical condition when she was transported from the scene. She was airlifted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for further treatment.

In addition to Walker, two other individuals were injured during the incident. One person suffered minor burns, while another experienced a panic attack. The fire alarms were triggered, forcing students to evacuate the school, where Walker’s mother works as a secretary.

Despite the severity of the situation, Walker is now in stable condition and reportedly in good spirits, according to her family. Her recovery process is expected to be long and challenging, but the support from the community has been overwhelming.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover the medical expenses associated with her treatment. As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign had already raised nearly $67,000, showing the generosity of people who want to support the Walker family.

Local businesses have also stepped up to assist. Jamestown Cafe and Small-Town Roots Salon & Spa hosted fundraisers to raise money for the family. The cafe donated 30% of purchases on Sunday to the Walker family, and customers who chose to donate received a free donut and coffee. This initiative raised $7,595 for the family.

Ashley Mannier, the cafe’s owner, shared that Walker’s classmates have been showing strong support for her. “And we hope that that presence speaks volumes,” she said, highlighting the community’s efforts to rally behind the girl.

Jamestown Church of Christ also contributed to the cause, using a special account that the church maintains for community emergencies. Pastor Luke Linville explained that the church plays an active role in supporting those in need, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and prayer.

“We kind of have a special account… that our church gives to when things happen in the community,” Linville told the outlet. “Everybody plays a part in this, you know. Churches play a part, businesspeople play a part, sports teams play a part, families. It’s people giving, but it’s just people praying and praying and praying, and I think that’s a very big, powerful thing.”

The church plans to hold a prayer gathering for Walker on the high school’s football field on Thursday, as announced on their Facebook page.

The school and Walker’s family have not yet responded to requests for comment. However, the outpouring of support from the community demonstrates the strength and compassion of those affected by this tragic incident. As the investigation into the cause of the explosion continues, the focus remains on Chloe Walker’s recovery and the healing of the entire community.
