Pitt star clarifies Noah Wyle feud rumors following castmate’s sudden exit

A New Chapter for The Pitt

The hit HBO series The Pitt has been making waves not just for its compelling storytelling but also for the changes happening behind the scenes. Recently, there have been rumors about a feud between actress Sepideh Moafi and her co-star Noah Wyle, but Moafi has denied these claims.

‘That’s completely false that there’s a personal sort of beef or rivalry between us, at least not that I’m aware of,’ Moafi, 40, said in an interview with Variety. ‘You can check with Noah, but I don’t know about this.’

Moafi, who plays Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi on the medical drama, described her relationship with Wyle, 54, as that of ‘really great colleagues.’ She added, ‘Noah and I have always had a great working relationship, which is why it actually felt safe to do the darker, dirtier work in episode 15, particularly because, between setups, we were shooting the s*** and laughing.’

Moafi, known for her roles in Black Bird, The Deuce, and The L Word: Generation Q, confirmed she will return to the show for its third season, though she’s unsure of the extent of her role.

‘I’m positive, I think? Nothing is clear to me as to what’s happening with the story, how many episodes, all that, but I am coming back,’ she said.

The recent developments come amid a major cast shake-up for the Emmy Award-winning series The Pitt. Central to this turmoil is star Noah Wyle, including allegations of bullying. Supriya Ganesh, who has portrayed senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan since the beginning of the series, will be exiting the popular HBO series at the conclusion of season two.

Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Ganesh, 28, for comment and have yet to hear back. A source for the publication ‘with knowledge of the situation’ previously told Variety that Ganesh’s exit was a storyline-based decision.

As The Pitt takes place at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, which is a teaching hospital, it has been said that it is normal for residents to come in and out. The show’s second season has also featured Dr. Mohan weighing her options for the next phase of her career after her residency ends. Her character is a third-year, and later fourth-year, medical resident trying to find balance between diligence and speed.

Ganesh has been a staple of the series as she has appeared in all 28 episodes of The Pitt so far.

Wyle addressed the shake-up while speaking to Variety last month at PaleyFest, praising Ganesh for her contributions to the series.

‘Obviously, Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning,’ Wyle said. ‘Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.’

Ayesha Harris, who plays senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, will be promoted to a series regular beginning season two, according to the outlet. She will see an increased role on the series as she starred in four of the 15 episodes in season one and season two, respectively.

Wyle last month told Variety that a rotation of actors made sense with the creative undertones of a medical drama.

‘Emergency rooms have a high revolving door,’ Wyle said. ‘As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the story lines fresh. It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show, because as writers we’re hard-pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically.’

The turnover comes amid the Daily Mail’s exclusive report detailing the secret turmoil of the Emmy-winning leading man Wyle. It has been said that Wyle has been battling struggles behind-the-scenes, with comments from one of his co-stars dredging up historic bullying allegations from his days on ER.

He previously starred as John Carter on the aforementioned NBC medical drama over 254 episodes, from 1994 to 2009. Wyle said in a 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he ‘had a chip on [his] shoulder with anybody’ who appeared on ER, amid a competitive tone on the set of the prime-time drama.

‘It was not an easy environment to work in because we didn’t suffer fools,’ Wyle said. ‘We were really hard on people, and I was hard on people that were coming into the show.’

In addition, an August 2024 lawsuit reviewed by the Daily Mail from the estate of ER creator Michael Crichton claimed The Pitt was a ‘copycat’ of ER, with minor cosmetic tweaks.

Regardless, The Pitt has been a standout success for HBO as it has received both critical praise and several awards. The drama has earned five Primetime Emmy Awards including an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series gong for Wyle and top honor Outstanding Drama Series.

Wyle’s protagonist character is Dr. Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch, a senior physician who is still reeling from his traumatic experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each episode of The Pitt covers one hour of a 15-hour shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. The show takes place in Pittsburgh, with the title nodding to both the location and a nickname for the hospital’s emergency department.

Other cast members include Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez.

The Pitt can be seen on HBO Max.
