Asus launches 24.5-inch 540Hz OLED esports monitor with 0.02ms response time

Asus has unveiled the ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace, a groundbreaking 24.5-inch gaming monitor designed specifically for competitive esports players. This new display is notable for its native 1080p resolution and 540Hz refresh rate, making it one of the most advanced options available in the tournament-standard size. Unlike many high-refresh-rate monitors that require software cropping or downscaling, the XG259QWPG Ace delivers a true 24.5-inch OLED experience without compromising on performance.

While 480Hz and 500Hz OLED monitors have been around for a while, they are typically found in larger 27-inch or 32-inch sizes. However, professional gamers in games like Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant often prefer a 24.5-inch screen to keep the entire display within their peripheral vision. This reduces the need for head movement and enhances overall gameplay. The XG259QWPG Ace fills this gap by offering a native 24.5-inch OLED option that competes directly with traditional TN panels used in esports tournaments.

The monitor features a Tandem WOLED panel, which uses a dual-layer architecture to stack two organic light-emitting diode layers. According to Asus, this design offers several advantages, including 15% higher peak brightness, a 25% larger color volume, and a 60% longer lifespan compared to standard single-layer WOLED screens. Additionally, the panel includes a TrueBlack glossy coating that improves text clarity and image sharpness, providing a more immersive visual experience than traditional matte finishes.

In terms of performance, the XG259QWPG Ace combines a 540Hz refresh rate with a 0.02ms response time and full Nvidia G-Sync support. This ensures minimal screen tearing and input lag, making it ideal for fast-paced competitive gaming. The display also retains the color benefits of OLED technology, covering 99.5% of the DCI-P3 gamut with true 10-bit color depth.

The monitor is certified as VESA DisplayHDR 600 True Black and comes factory-calibrated with a Delta E value of less than 2, ensuring accurate color reproduction. To help players transition from TN displays, Asus has included three custom Esports Color modes that replicate the visual profile of older tournament monitors. These settings aim to provide a familiar look while still leveraging the advanced capabilities of OLED technology.

Asus has also collaborated with esports organizers BLAST and PGL to develop physical and software features tailored for competitive play. The monitor’s stand and base include precise measurement markings, allowing players to record and replicate their exact height, tilt, and swivel preferences when setting up at LAN events. On the software side, a new Quick OSD (on-screen display) menu provides instant access to key settings like brightness and shadow boost, bypassing the need to navigate through multiple menus.

At this time, Asus has not yet announced the pricing or release date for the XG259QWPG Ace. However, the company continues to push the boundaries of gaming technology, offering cutting-edge solutions for serious competitors.

In related news, Lenovo has recently launched an affordable 2K gaming monitor featuring a 300Hz refresh rate and a 0.5ms response time. This further highlights the growing demand for high-performance displays in the gaming market.
