Mindy Kaling’s Exclusive Chat on Today

Mindy Kaling has long been a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, known for her sharp wit and unique perspective on life. From her early days on The Office, where she made an indelible mark as a writer and actor, to her own creation, The Mindy Project, Kaling has consistently used her platform to highlight the experiences of South Asian women in Hollywood. Her work is not just about comedy—it’s about representation, authenticity, and telling stories that resonate with audiences who have often been overlooked.

Now, Kaling is taking another step forward with her latest project, Not Suitable For Work, a new streaming series that showcases her growing influence behind the camera. The show is available on Disney Plus and follows five young adults navigating the challenges of work and relationships in New York City. It’s the third in a trilogy of shows that Kaling has created, each based on different phases of her life.

Not Suitable For Work is the third in a trilogy of shows about my youth,” Kaling shared exclusively with Today entertainment producer Anna Cordaiy. “Never Have I Ever was about my time in high school, Sex Lives of College Girls was loosely based on my time at Dartmouth, although I definitely wasn’t in as many sexy situations as those characters, and now this new show is about my time moving to New York when I was 21 and right out of college. It was a period of my life that I remember so vividly, so I knew I had to do a show about this.”

Kaling’s journey from The Office to creating her own projects has been one of growth, resilience, and innovation. She has become a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, not only as an actor but also as a writer and director. Her ability to blend humor with heartfelt storytelling has earned her a loyal following and critical acclaim.

Despite her success, Kaling remains grounded and acknowledges the lessons she learned early in her career. “So much of what I do now is what I learned very early in my career, working on The Office, as both a writer and an actor,” she said. “But everything I learned is pretty much from The Office and The Mindy Project.”

With Not Suitable For Work, Kaling continues to push boundaries and explore new creative territories. The show not only highlights her comedic talents but also demonstrates her ability to craft complex, relatable characters that reflect the realities of modern life. It’s a testament to her evolution as an artist and storyteller.

For fans of Kaling’s work, the series offers a fresh perspective on the challenges and triumphs of young adulthood. It’s a mix of humor, heart, and authenticity that has come to define her brand of storytelling. Whether it’s through her writing, directing, or acting, Kaling continues to make a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

Not Suitable For Work is now streaming on Disney Plus, and viewers can catch the full interview with Kaling in the video above. The show is a must-watch for anyone looking for a smart, entertaining, and thought-provoking series that reflects the complexities of life in New York City.
