Runner Eilish McColgan Faces New Setback After London Marathon Injury
Eilish McColgan, a prominent Scottish runner, has been advised to wear a medical boot following a recent discovery that her injury sustained during the London Marathon is more severe than initially thought. The athlete shared the news on social media, showcasing a photo of herself wearing a controlled ankle movement (CAM) boot, commonly referred to as a ‘Moon Boot’.
This update comes after McColgan suffered a toe injury during the London Marathon in April, which forced her to complete the race with blood seeping through her running shoes. Despite the setback, the 35-year-old athlete managed to finish the event in seventh place with a time of 2:24:51.
In a recent post, McColgan posed for a photo during a weekend in London, smiling broadly in front of the Holy Trinity Church in Westminster. She described the boot as a “new fashion accessory” and admitted she had hoped to avoid such an injury after the marathon.
- “Thought I had got away with London Marathon toe gate, but sadly not… thankfully it’s nothing too serious and I’ll be back doing what I love in a few weeks!” she wrote alongside the image.
The athlete also mentioned that the last time she wore a similar boot was in 2015, a period she described as a “horrible year.” During that time, she broke her ankle and spent around eight months in a boot before undergoing surgery. However, she noted that this current situation is much less severe.
- “Thankfully this is a breeze compared to then. Only a few weeks to endure!” she added.
McColgan revealed details of her toe injury shortly after the marathon, describing the pain as feeling like her foot had “exploded.” She mentioned that she could hardly feel any pressure running through it towards the end of the race.
After the event, she took some time off to recover by enjoying a beach holiday. The athlete also suggested that a swollen foot might have contributed to the injury. She explained that she had suffered from a rash in the build-up to the marathon, which spread down her calves.

In addition to the health challenges, McColgan humorously reflected on the expenses incurred during her weekend in London. She used “girl math” to balance out the sad expenses with some happier ones, including retail therapy, a West End show, a posh hotel, and lots of good food.
Despite the setbacks, McColgan remains optimistic about her recovery and looks forward to returning to her passion. Her resilience and positive attitude continue to inspire fans and fellow athletes alike.
