A Stellar Performance That Shuts Down Doubts
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a powerful statement in the IPL 2026, silencing critics and proving his mettle on the field. Representing the Rajasthan Royals in a crucial match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Sooryavanshi delivered a breathtaking innings that helped his team secure a commanding six-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Sooryavanshi’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary. He scored 78 runs off just 26 balls, showcasing his aggressive batting style and ability to dominate bowlers. His innings included eight fours and seven sixes, with a particularly impressive display against Josh Hazlewood, where he hit three boundaries and a six in one over. This performance not only gave the Rajasthan Royals a strong start in their chase of 202 but also highlighted his growing confidence and skill.
Addressing Previous Criticisms
Earlier this year, former India batter Robin Uthappa had expressed doubts about Sooryavanshi’s ability to maintain his form in the second season. He suggested that the youngster’s early success might be attributed to luck and unexpected breakthroughs, and predicted that bowlers would eventually adapt to his style. Uthappa even questioned whether Sooryavanshi could reach the milestone of becoming the fastest Indian to hit a century.
However, Uthappa quickly acknowledged his mistake after witnessing Sooryavanshi’s latest performance. He praised the 15-year-old for overcoming the so-called “second season blues” and admitted that the young cricketer had worked hard to improve his game. Uthappa described Sooryavanshi as a generational talent and clarified that he had never considered the youngster’s previous performances as a fluke.
“I am only SO HAPPY to be wrong about this. Second season blues are a reality in professional sport. It’s a part and parcel of professional sport. I have absolutely no qualms in saying that he’s not having second season blues at the moment and he’s come to this season heaps better prepared than the last one,” Uthappa wrote on X.
“He looks like he’s one perhaps 2 steps ahead of the bowlers he’s going up against! Truly a generational talent and I pray he will continue in this same way for the rest of career. And one clarification: I NEVER CALLED HIM OR HIS PERFORMANCE LAST SEASON A FLUKE!! Peace out,” Uthappa added.
A Dominant Display
Sooryavanshi’s innings was marked by his aggressive approach and ability to take charge of the game from the outset. He reached a rapid 50 off just 15 balls during the powerplay, setting the tone for a successful chase. His explosive knock not only helped Rajasthan Royals secure a win but also solidified his position as the leading run-scorer of the season.
With 200 runs from four matches at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 266.66, Sooryavanshi has proven himself as one of the most exciting talents in the tournament. His performance has been instrumental in keeping the Rajasthan Royals unbeaten, with four wins and a net run rate of +2.055.
Looking Ahead
The 2008 IPL champions will now face the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 13 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. With Sooryavanshi in top form, the Royals will be looking to continue their winning streak and make a strong push for the title.
