Pitt State Track and Field Dominates at 2026 PSU Tune-Up Meet
Pittsburg State University (Pitt State) recently hosted the 2026 PSU Tune-Up meet in their newly constructed outdoor track facility, marking a significant milestone for the university’s athletics program. The event attracted over 650 athletes from various colleges and universities across the country, including Missouri Southern, Crowder, and Cottey College. The competition showcased impressive performances from both Pitt State and Missouri Southern teams, with Pitt State emerging as the clear leader.
Before the meet, the rankings reflected the strength of the teams. The Pitt State men’s team was ranked No. 3, while the women’s team was ranked No. 2. Missouri Southern’s men’s squad was ranked No. 10, and the women’s team was ranked No. 4. These rankings set high expectations for the competition, which was met with exceptional performances throughout the day.
Key Highlights from the Meet
Men Javelin Throw
Pitt State dominated the men’s javelin throw, sweeping the top three spots. Trace Hanchett led the way with a throw of 63.77 meters, followed by Maddox Johnson with 62.76 meters, and Gannon Marquardt with 60.65 meters.
Women Long Jump
Brooklyn Baker of Pitt State secured first place in the women’s long jump with a jump of 6.16 meters, showcasing her agility and power.
Women Javelin Throw
The women’s javelin throw also saw Pitt State take the top three positions. Alycia Cosens claimed first with a throw of 46.96 meters, followed by Madi Olds and Maggie Salsbury.
Men Long Jump
Missouri Southern’s Donovyn Fowler placed second with a jump of 7.33 meters, while Drew Beachler took third with a jump of 7.25 meters.
Women Hammer Throw
Missouri Southern’s Briar Gillum set a new program record with a throw of 61.45 meters, securing first place. Dailynn VanDeren came in second with a throw of 60.50 meters.
Women Pole Vault
Isabelle Peters of Pitt State took second place with a vault of 4.13 meters, while Breanna Peters secured third with a vault of 4.03 meters.
Men High Jump
Xavier Byers of Pitt State placed second with a jump of 2.11 meters, demonstrating his vertical leap.
Women Triple Jump
Alexa Binkley of Pitt State took second place with a jump of 12.17 meters, highlighting her explosive power.
Women Discus Throw
Briar Gillum of Missouri Southern placed second with a throw of 50.04 meters.
Men Hammer Throw
Jack Haukap of Pitt State won first place with a throw of 69.30 meters. Missouri Southern’s Gabe Ford and Isaiah Waller took second and third, respectively.
Men Triple Jump
Pitt State swept the top three spots in the men’s triple jump. Isaiah Webster led with a jump of 15.13 meters, followed by Antwan Dawson and TyQuarious Ivy.
Women High Jump
Bethany Umbarger of Pitt State won first place with a jump of 1.77 meters, while Jazmine Williamson secured second with a jump of 1.74 meters. Avery Lawhorn of Missouri Southern took third with a jump of 1.65 meters.
Men Pole Vault
Grayson Smith of Pitt State set a new school record with a vault of 5.50 meters, securing first place. Britton Gage took second with a vault of 5.13 meters, while Zeke Galvicius of Missouri Southern placed third with a vault of 5.03 meters.
Men Discus Throw
Jamale Williams of Missouri Southern won first place with a throw of 59.86 meters, setting a new program record.
Women Shot Put
Dailynn VanDeren of Missouri Southern won first place with a throw of 16.72 meters, another program record. Abby Lasiter of Pitt State took third with a throw of 13.67 meters.
Men Shot Put
Cedric Pearson of Missouri Southern won first place with a throw of 19.09 meters, while Jamale Williams took third with a throw of 18.05 meters.
