Coachella Festival Operators Fined for Curfew Violations
INDIO, Calif. – Goldenvoice, the company that organizes the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, has been fined a total of $44,000 by the city of Indio for two artists who exceeded the curfew during the second weekend of the festival, according to city officials.
Electronic artist Anyma was fined $24,000 for finishing his performance at 1:09 a.m. on Friday, while Justin Bieber received a $20,000 penalty for going over the time limit by two minutes on Saturday. These fines were imposed based on an existing agreement between the city and Goldenvoice, which outlines specific penalties for any set that exceeds the scheduled curfew times.
Under the agreement, the city imposes a base fine of $20,000 for any performance that goes past the 1 a.m. deadline on Fridays and Saturdays, and midnight on Sundays. Additionally, an extra $1,000 is charged for every minute beyond the five-minute grace period.
No fines were issued during the first weekend of the festival, indicating that the curfew rules were followed more strictly then.
Increased Law Enforcement Activity During the Festival
In addition to the fines for curfew violations, the festival also saw a significant number of arrests. According to police reports, a total of 106 people were arrested during the final week of the event in Indio.
The most common charges involved drug possession, with 52 individuals facing allegations in this category. Another 13 people were arrested for possessing false identification, and eight others were taken into custody for suspected drug or alcohol intoxication. The remaining 33 arrests were categorized as “other” offenses.
This marks an increase compared to the first weekend of the festival, when 96 arrests were recorded. During the second weekend, 85 citations were issued for the unlawful use of a disabled placard, and two additional cases were classified under the “other” category.

These incidents highlight the challenges faced by organizers and law enforcement during large-scale events like Coachella. While the festival continues to draw massive crowds and attract top-tier talent, managing the logistics of such a large gathering remains complex.
