A Unique Love Story
Anthony Kiedis, the frontman of Red Hot Chili Peppers, has been in the spotlight again, this time for his relationship with a much younger woman. Eileen Kelly, a 30-year-old writer, recently shared her experiences in an essay titled “My Boyfriend Is Double My Age,” which was published in Vogue.
In the essay, Eileen discussed her relationship with Kiedis, who is 63 years old. She described their age gap as significant, noting that he is “more than twice [her] age.” Although she didn’t explicitly name Kiedis, she has been seen with him at several events, including a post-Grammys party in February.
Eileen mentioned that this is her first time dating someone significantly older and joked that she has been “missing out my whole life.” She also talked about the challenges of being in a relationship where people often mistake Kiedis for her father, which she finds “incredibly awkward every time.”
The couple met at a mutual friend’s birthday party and bonded over their shared love of Hawaii, where Kiedis owns a house. Eileen noted that others may perceive their age difference as either “alarming or impressive, depending on who you ask.”
She wrote that there is something to be said for a man who has had more time to get his life together, and that Kiedis seems genuinely excited to be with her. She emphasized that their relationship is not like he is biding his time before finding someone better.
Eileen also addressed the stigma surrounding age-gap relationships, where older men are sometimes labeled as “creepy” or “gross,” while the younger woman is assumed to have “daddy issues” or be a “gold digger.” She questioned whether it’s difficult to imagine that connection can exist across generations.
In her essay, Eileen defended their relationship by describing Kiedis as “interesting” and “magnetic.” She concluded by saying that she and Kiedis are “mostly just two people doing the ongoing, unremarkable work of moving through life together.”
Kiedis has had a history of relationships with women of similar age gaps. He was previously in a relationship with actress Ione Skye in the late 80s and was rumored to have dated Sinead O’Connor in 1990 and Mel C later that decade.
He is also the father of 18-year-old son Everly Bear Kiedis, whom he welcomed with ex Heather Christie in 2007. In the years since, he has been seen on several romantic dates with women with similar age gaps.
Kiedis also revealed in his 2004 autobiography Scar Tissue that he had sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl when he was 23. This revelation sparked controversy and discussions about the ethical implications of such relationships.
