A Journey Through the Birth of Their First Child
Sophie Habboo, a well-known figure from the show Made In Chelsea, has shared her experience of undergoing an emergency C-section without being properly numbed. Alongside her husband, Jamie Laing, who gained popularity through their podcast NearlyWeds, they have launched a new series called NewlyParents. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Ziggy, in December and have been away from the podcast since then.
The return of NewlyParents was marked by the first episode, where the couple reflected on the intense and emotional birth of their son. Sophie described the situation as “intense,” while Jamie mentioned how quickly the situation escalated. He recalled the moment when everything happened so fast that it felt like they had to act immediately.
Sophie shared her feelings about the numbing process during the procedure. She explained that the anaesthetist, Tara, kept checking if she was numb, while they sprayed her with cold numbing cream. Despite this, Sophie could still feel the effects on her body, which made the experience quite scary for her.

She recounted the moments when the OBGYN insisted they proceed, even though the numbing wasn’t complete. Sophie said she was willing to endure the pain just to ensure the safety of her baby. She mentioned feeling the spray on her breast but not on her tummy, which led the medical team to proceed with the operation.
Jamie expressed how emotional the experience was for him, stating it was the most emotional thing he had ever experienced in his life.
A Hilarious Return to the Podium
To celebrate the launch of NewlyParents, Sophie and Jamie transformed into their aged selves for a humorous and wild advertisement. They donned grey wigs, detailed wrinkle prosthetics, grey hair, and special makeup to appear as elderly versions of themselves. The video featured an elderly Jamie holding an equally aged-looking Sophie’s hand as she lay in a hospital bed surrounded by photos of their life together.
While some of the images were real snapshots from their wedding day and the birth of their baby son Ziggy, others were digitally created, including scenes of them on the moon and a newspaper announcing Jamie as prime minister.
In the video, elderly Jamie tells his wife: “I still can’t believe we did that. What a ride we had. You know I’ve been thinking. There’s one thing that I really regret. That we didn’t bring the podcast back one more time.”

Suddenly, Sophie begins to flatline, causing Jamie to panic and call for help. He begs: “No Sophie, wake up! Forget I mentioned the podcast, I didn’t mean it. Wake up please!” She then wakes up as her normal 31-year-old self in bed, breathing a sigh of relief as she says: “Oh my god I just had the worst nightmare, thank God it isn’t real.”
Upon looking at the bottom of her bed, she is shocked to see Jamie holding Ziggy and surrounded by an entire crew with cameras, lighting, and sound equipment, as he declares: “We’re back baby!”
The video had fans in stitches, with many famous fans, including Dani Dyer and Tasha Ghouri, commenting with laughing emojis. Sophie’s BFF Melissa Tattam wrote: “Omg I’m laughing but also made me cry lol.”
Fans couldn’t help but poke fun at the pair’s make-up, with many quipping that Jamie resembled Dr. Seuss character, The Lorax, Ellen Degeneres, or the late Bruce Forsyth. One fan wrote: “All I can think about watching this is how much you all would have howled with laughter doing this makeup and pretending to be old. Welcome back ❤️.” Another commented: “Omg this is the best advert I’ve ever seen. Can you make the @johnlewis Christmas ad this year please?”; “Wait. Why was this actually quite moving.”
