Socceroos Winger Makes Bold Claim for World Cup Success
Nestory Irankunda, the 20-year-old Socceroos winger, has made a bold statement about the team’s potential to go all the way and win the World Cup this year. His confidence comes after an impressive debut season with Watford in the Championship, where he scored four goals and provided four assists in 40 appearances.
Irankunda, who was once a standout player in the A-League, is now looking to make his mark on the international stage. He recently joined his teammate Mohamed Toure on a flight to the US for a training camp, marking the start of their preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

Toure, who joined Norwich in January, had a remarkable start to his career, scoring 10 goals in just 12 games before suffering a groin injury that raised concerns about his availability for the tournament. However, both players are focused on contributing to the Socceroos’ success in the coming weeks.
Pre-World Cup Training Camps and Friendly Matches
The Socceroos’ pre-World Cup training camp is set to take place in Sarasota, on the west coast of Florida. The team will then move to Los Angeles at the end of May for a friendly match against Mexico. Following that, they will relocate to Oakland, California, for their World Cup base camp.
Before the group stage begins, the Socceroos will have a final warm-up game against Switzerland on June 7, which is scheduled for 5am AEDT. This will be followed by their first Group D clash against Turkey on June 14, starting at 2pm AEDT. The team will then face the USA on June 20 (5am AEDT) and Paraguay on June 26 (12pm AEDT).
Tony Popovic’s Vision for the Team
Tony Popovic, the head coach of the Socceroos, is fully aware of the significance of leading Australia in the World Cup. Having played in the 2006 World Cup under Guus Hiddink, he understands the pressure and responsibility that come with such a high-profile role.
“I don’t think it gets more real than this,” Popovic said in an interview with Football 360. “I’m really excited for the wonderful group of young men that want to be the best they can be on the ultimate stage.”
He emphasized the importance of resilience, competitiveness, and belief in the team’s abilities. “We will show the belief we have in ourselves and ultimately do the country proud.”
Focus on Performance and Unity
As the Socceroos prepare for the World Cup, the focus remains on performance, unity, and the development of young talent. With players like Irankunda and Toure bringing energy and experience to the squad, the team is well-positioned to make a strong impact in the tournament.
The journey ahead will test the team’s skills, determination, and ability to adapt to different challenges. However, with a mix of youth and experience, the Socceroos are ready to embrace the opportunity and strive for success on the global stage.
