Toyota’s rugged ute slashes prices by $10,000+

Toyota has made a significant move in the Australian market by reducing the price of certain Tundra full-size pickup models. The brand is now offering its 2025 model year Tundra units without on-road costs and with a $10,000 cashback offer. Previously, the Tundra started at $155,900 before on-road costs, with the top-tier variant priced at $172,990. This new deal marks a substantial reduction.

The 2026 Toyota Tundra has received a much-needed boost to help it compete against rivals like the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado. Additionally, Toyota is preparing a new model called the TRD Hammer, which is set to challenge off-road competitors such as the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX.

Another version of the Tundra, the HD (Heavy Duty), has been approved for sale in Australia. This model offers increased load-lugging capability to better compete with the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, and Ram 1500.

This promotional deal is available until June 30 this year. Toyota is aiming to clear out older Tundra stock, as the 2026 model is now available in showrooms. Meanwhile, Ford is also offering a similar stock-clearing deal on its rival F-150 pickup. The 2024 model year F-150 is available from $115,000 (drive-away), effectively eliminating on-road costs.

The Tundra has struggled to keep up with its competitors in sales, trailing the F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and Ram pickups. However, this latest price cut is part of a broader strategy to increase the vehicle’s competitiveness in the market.

Toyota has launched several major advertising campaigns in recent months. Last month, the brand expressed confidence in making progress within the segment. John Pappas, Toyota Australia’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said:

“The Tundra is a great truck. I get a lot of feedback from reviewers or customers about the performance of the vehicle. The fact is that we need to get the awareness out there, and that’s really our prime motive right now. And then we’re very confident that once people are aware of it and they test drive it, then we’re confident that it will be successful.”

The Tundra features a 3.5-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with an electric motor as part of a plugless hybrid setup. This configuration produces 326kW and 790Nm of torque. The hybrid system is similar to the one introduced on the recently unveiled hybrid LandCruiser.

Key Features of the 2026 Toyota Tundra

  • Engine Performance: The Tundra comes equipped with a powerful 3.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering strong power and torque.
  • Hybrid Technology: The plugless hybrid system enhances fuel efficiency while maintaining high performance levels.
  • Load Capacity: The HD variant is designed for heavy-duty use, offering improved towing and load-lugging capabilities.
  • Off-Road Capabilities: The TRD Hammer model is tailored for off-road adventures, competing directly with the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX.
