Exclusive: ‘I’m a Curse’ – Luke Bateman Blames Himself for Possible I’m a Celeb Exit

Luke Bateman’s Unexpected Reaction to I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here Rumours

Luke Bateman, a former NRL player and one of the standout figures on the latest season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing speculation about the show’s future. Known for his charm and charisma, Luke finished in the Top 3, which has only added to his popularity among fans, especially those from the BookTok community.

However, the recent news that the show may not be returning for another season caught Luke off guard. His initial reaction was both humorous and unexpected. When he heard the rumours, his first thought was a playful assumption that something scandalous had occurred. “When you said ‘the rumours,’ I was like ‘Oh my god, had sex?’” he joked, suggesting he thought his fellow campmates might have been involved in a romantic entanglement.

His second thought was more serious, albeit still laced with humor. Luke jokingly claimed he feared he might have “cursed” the show after appearing on it. He referenced The Bachelor Australia, which ran for 11 seasons, but was cancelled after he was the leading man in 2023. “The Bachelor got axed after my season, I am a production curse!” he said. “My strike rate is 100 per cent at getting shows cancelled [once appearing on them].”

Despite the jokes, Luke expressed that he would be disappointed if the show were to be cancelled. He described his experience on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here as positive and memorable. “To be completely honest, I don’t really have any thoughts towards it. It’s not in my realm of thought. Sad to think that no one else will get to go through that wonderful experience. But, the sun comes up tomorrow?”

Is I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here Being Cancelled?

Concerns about the show’s future were first raised when TV Blackbox reported that Network Ten had “axed” the reality TV series. This led to widespread speculation about its fate. However, Network Ten clarified that no official decision has been made regarding the show’s continuation.

A spokesperson for Network Ten stated that it is standard practice for the next season of the show to not be confirmed at this time of year. The latest season, which featured Luke Bateman, concluded in February, and decisions about the 2027 program schedule are expected to be made in the coming weeks.

TV Blackbox has stood by its claim that the show’s future is uncertain, asserting that their sources have provided accurate information for all of their previous reports about I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

Major Format Change in the Latest Season

The most recent season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here introduced a significant format change. Reports suggest that these changes were implemented to reduce production costs, as the show’s viewership had declined.

For the first time in the show’s history, the entire season was pre-recorded. Previously, each episode included live coverage alongside pre-recorded segments, but this wasn’t the case this year. Filming wrapped last year, and three different finales were recorded to avoid spoilers.

The winner’s finale was the one that aired at the end of the season, even though none of the Top 3 participants knew whether they had actually won or not at the time of recording.

By filming the season in advance, the post-production team didn’t need to work under tight deadlines, effectively cutting costs.
