Darren Day’s 90s Heartthrob Era Feels Like a Lifetime Ago

Darren Day’s Low-Key Outing in Essex

Darren Day, a name that once resonated with the 90s heartthrob era, was spotted in Essex recently, showcasing a completely different side of himself. The 57-year-old actor and singer, known for his leading roles in West End musical theatre, took a casual trip to a second-hand jewellery shop on Thursday. His appearance was far from the glamorous image he once had, as he carried a miniature cactus, adding a touch of uniqueness to his outfit.

Day opted for a black leather jacket over a plain white T-shirt, paired with matching skinny ripped jeans. He completed his look with lace-up black boots and several long gold necklaces. His greying hair was swept to one side, and he sported long facial hair, giving him a more relaxed and low-key appearance. He was also seen carrying a large tote bag and an energy drink, highlighting his laid-back approach to the outing.

Recent Health Incident and Upcoming Performances

Last month, Darren faced a health scare when he was rushed to A&E with a suspected broken arm just hours before his latest performance in a touring production of Mother Goose. On Instagram, he shared the incident, stating: “Currently sitting in A&E with suspected broken bones in my wrist and elbow. Just over an hour ‘til I’m onstage!”

In the Mother Goose production, Darren plays the villainous Demon Vanity alongside former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan as Princess Jill and Basil Brush as King Basil. The actor, a seasoned stage performer, was preparing for the second of two shows at Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury when the accident occurred.

Helen Flanagan, his co-star, commented on his Instagram post, saying: “Your the best Darren love you loads.” [sic]

The cast was on a month-long UK tour with the Anson Benson Productions stage show, with their final performance scheduled for April 19 at Victoria Theatre in Halifax.

New Chapter as Grandparents

Darren’s recent trip to A&E comes shortly after he and his ex-partner Suzanne confirmed they are grandparents. Suzanne, a former Hear’Say singer, shared on Instagram that Corey’s girlfriend had given birth to a baby son named Colton. Despite their turbulent relationship when they split in 2005, the couple has since reconciled, presenting a united front while showing off the newborn.

Darren humorously mentioned the age gap between himself and Suzanne in a recent post, joking: “Grandad loves you so much…and is actually old enough to be a Grandparent, unlike Nanny! @suzi_shaw.”

Suzanne added: “Something beautiful, something true, My baby boy Corey, became a father To a precious son, wrapped softly in blue.”

Personal History and Reconciliation

Darren’s past includes an illicit fling with Shaw in 2003 while co-starring in the touring theatre production of Summer Holiday, despite both being engaged to other people. His reputation and career suffered significantly after he left Shaw and their seven-week-old son Corey on Mother’s Day in 2005, while she was battling postnatal depression. He reportedly said, “I don’t do family.”

Now embracing a new chapter as grandparents, Darren and Suzanne have found a way to move forward, showing a more positive and united side of their relationship. Their journey highlights the complexities of personal and professional life, as well as the importance of reconciliation and growth.
