Khloe Kardashian Faces Backlash Over ‘Cruel’ Cat Surgery

Khloé Kardashian Apologizes for Declawing Her Cats

Khloé Kardashian, a well-known reality TV personality, has recently faced criticism from animal rights groups after admitting to declawing her two Russian Blue cats. The 41-year-old shared her regret on the latest episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land. This decision has sparked a heated debate about the ethics of declawing and the responsibilities of pet owners.

Declawing is a surgical procedure that involves removing a cat’s claws and the last bone of each toe. It is often compared to cutting off someone’s fingers or toes, as it can lead to long-term pain, loss of balance, and stress for the animal. In California, where Kardashian resides with her cats, a new law making this practice largely illegal came into effect earlier this year.

PETA, an organization dedicated to the ethical treatment of animals, responded strongly to Kardashian’s admission. Daphna Nachminovitch, PETA’s Senior Vice President of Cruelty Investigations, stated: “At least Khloe Kardashian knows now that amputating cats’ toes at the joint leaves them with lifelong misery and pain and robs them of their natural ability to stretch, climb, and defend themselves.”

She added, “Cats need scratching posts and regular nail trims, not mutilation surgeries done purely for human convenience. PETA urges everyone to avoid Khloe’s mistake and let cats keep the claws they were born with.”

Kardashian opened up about the behavioral issues she has experienced with her cats since the procedure. She admitted she was misinformed about declawing and expressed deep remorse. “I was really misadvised about getting my cats declawed. I’ve never owned cats before. I didn’t even know that was a thing,” she said. “I feel really, really terrible that I did go in this direction. I feel like that’s why my cats are miserable and it was at my doing.”

She also revealed that her cats wear Air Tags to prevent them from escaping, as they are no longer able to defend themselves. “They lost their protection tools. So it makes me sad.”

Despite her apology, many social media users criticized her decision. One commenter wrote, “I cannot believe you got your cats declawed. That is so beyond inhumane and makes me so sad.” Another said, “Declawed!??? Poor babies that is soo cruel. This should be illegal.”

Others questioned her judgment, with one person writing, “You should be ashamed of yourself for not researching what declawing does to cats. Is it that hard to google a procedure before agreeing to it? Do you just have blind faith in what people tell you?” Another commented, “You’re going to the wrong vet, this practice is unethical.”

The Daily Mail reached out to a representative for Kardashian for comment but has not yet received a response. This is not the first time Kardashian has faced public scrutiny over her pets. In 2024, she was accused of using FaceTune on photos of her cat, Grey Kitty, which led to accusations of altering the feline’s appearance.

Fans noticed inconsistencies in the images, such as blurred whiskers and different eye colors. One fan wrote, “Even the pets aren’t safe,” while another remarked, “even the cat got work done.” Some pointed out that the cat in the photos did not look like a typical Russian Blue. Others praised the cat, saying, “Omg your cat does not look real” and “That cat is so cute, it looks animated ngl.”
