A Harrowing Case of Animal Abuse
A shocking case of animal cruelty has led to a five-year ban for a dog owner who was caught on camera physically abusing his pet. The incident, which involved a Rottweiler named Dyson, has sparked widespread concern and highlighted the importance of animal welfare laws.
The footage, which captured the horrifying treatment of Dyson, showed Malik Zoubiri, 31, repeatedly punching and dragging his cowering dog outside a block of flats in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The video, which quickly circulated online, revealed the extent of the abuse that Dyson endured at the hands of his owner.
After police and the RSPCA became aware of the video, an investigation was launched. It uncovered a pattern of cruel and inhumane treatment, including submerging Dyson in water and leaving him without food for days. The physical and mental trauma inflicted on the dog was so severe that he was eventually put down due to his deteriorating condition.
In the footage, Zoubiri can be seen holding Dyson as he repeatedly smacks the dog on his back. He then drags Dyson by one of his hind legs before wrapping the chain lead around the neck of his visibly distressed pet and dragging him into the apartment block. This disturbing behavior was not isolated; it was part of a broader pattern of abuse that continued over time.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Zoubiri’s abusive behavior extended beyond physical violence. He was found to have repeatedly lifted Dyson by the collar, thrown 20kg weights at him, and even smashed his head against furniture. Additionally, the owner failed to meet the basic needs of the dog, intentionally avoiding feeding him for days and not allowing him outside to use the toilet.
The neglect and cruelty caused significant behavioral issues in Dyson, making him unsafe for rehoming. As a result, the decision was made to euthanize the dog, a heartbreaking outcome that underscores the severity of the abuse.
On May 12, Zoubiri appeared at Barkingside Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty to two animal welfare offenses. In addition to the five-year ban from owning animals, he was ordered to carry out a 12-month community order with 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days. He will also need to pay £500 in costs, a fine of £180, and a victim surcharge of £114.
Inspector Shahnaz Ahmad emphasized the importance of treating animals with kindness and compassion, stating: “Animals feel pain and distress, just like we do, and always deserve to be shown kindness and compassion. This result should act as a warning that such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
This case serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and action when it comes to animal welfare. It highlights the critical role of organizations like the RSPCA in investigating and addressing cases of cruelty, as well as the legal consequences for those who choose to harm animals.
The story of Dyson is a tragic example of how far some individuals will go to inflict suffering on innocent creatures. It is a call to action for all members of the community to report suspected animal abuse and support efforts to protect vulnerable animals from harm.
