Donald Trump’s Viral AI Video Takes Aim at Stephen Colbert
Donald Trump, the former U.S. president, has taken to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express his strong disapproval of Stephen Colbert following the comedian’s final episode of The Late Show. On Friday, May 22, Trump posted an AI-generated video that depicts Colbert being thrown into a dumpster, highlighting his apparent frustration with the late-night host.
The White House also shared the controversial clip on their official X account, captioning it with “Bye-bye 👋.” The video features a fake The Late Show clip where Colbert is seen speaking to the audience after a commercial break. In the scene, an AI-generated version of Trump then appears and throws Colbert into a dumpster. Afterward, the AI-Trump performs a humorous little dance with his arms, adding a comedic twist to the otherwise aggressive content.
A Series of Attacks on Colbert
Throughout the week, as The Late Show approached its final episode, Trump continued to attack Colbert with several tirades. On Friday morning, he wrote: “Stephen Colbert’s firing from CBS was the ‘Beginning of the End’ for untalented, nasty, highly overpaid, not funny, and very poorly rated Late Night Television Hosts. Others, of even less talent, to soon follow. May they all Rest in Peace! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
In another post, Trump expressed his delight at Colbert’s departure from CBS, writing: “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”
A Final Episode Full of Surprises
Colbert began hosting The Late Show on CBS in September 2015, and his final episode aired on May 21. The show ended with a memorable performance by Sir Paul McCartney alongside Jon Batiste and Elvis Costello. During the finale, Colbert did not directly mention Trump by name but instead sent messages of love and gratitude to his viewers.
However, he took a bold and humorous jab at CBS by having his in-house band play the copyrighted theme song from Charlie Brown and other Peanuts television specials. This act was a clear copyright violation, and Colbert smirked directly into the camera while joking, “Oh no, I hope this doesn’t cost CBS any money.”
The End of an Era
CBS announced the cancellation of The Late Show in July 2025, stating that the series was no longer financially viable. Just days before the news broke, Colbert publicly criticized a $16 million settlement between the network’s parent company, Paramount, and Trump.
Despite the controversy surrounding the finale, the show left a lasting legacy, with Colbert’s unique blend of humor and commentary resonating with audiences for years. His final episode marked the end of an era, but it also highlighted the ongoing tensions between political figures and late-night hosts.
