Unlucky Run for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had a tough time in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), with several unfortunate moments that have left them feeling they’ve been on the wrong side of luck. Initially, they finished in third place with 18 points, only to be edged out by a lower net run rate. Their hopes of progressing further were dashed in the eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), where a single moment from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ended their campaign.
Despite SRH managing to control RR’s batting in the latter stages of the game, they still faced an uphill battle as they needed to chase 244 runs. The challenge proved too great, and the SRH batters failed to deliver under pressure.
A Disappointing Chase
In their pursuit of 244, the SRH top three batters—Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan—were all dismissed for low scores. Jofra Archer played a pivotal role in dismantling the top order, taking the wickets of all three players. His efforts were instrumental in putting SRH on the back foot early in the innings.
Archer delivered a 150 kph short delivery that forced Ishan Kishan to attempt a mistimed shot, which was caught easily at cover. The moment was captured on camera, and it showed Kavya Maran, the daughter of SRH’s owner, visibly upset as she tried to contain her frustration.
Rajasthan Royals’ Dominant Performance
Rajasthan Royals made a strong statement in their victory over SRH, posting a formidable total of 243/8 in 20 overs at New Chandigarh. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the standout performer, scoring a blistering 97 off just 29 balls. His innings included five fours and 12 sixes, giving him a strike rate of 334.48. Although his dismissal at 125 in the eighth over marked the end of a destructive phase, RR continued to score freely.
Dhruv Jurel added 50 from 21 deliveries, hitting five boundaries and three sixes, while captain Riyan Parag contributed 26 off 12 balls. Despite losing some wickets towards the end, RR managed a run rate of 12.15, showcasing their dominance throughout the innings.
SRH’s Struggles in the Chase
For SRH, the chase was a nightmare from the start. They lost momentum quickly and found themselves at 57/4 within 4.4 overs. Jofra Archer once again proved to be a key threat, dismissing Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan. His final figures read 3/58, highlighting his impact on the game.
Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a valuable 38 off 20 balls, and Salil Arora chipped in with 35 from 21 deliveries. However, the lack of substantial partnerships meant SRH could not build a competitive total. They were eventually bowled out for 196 in 19.2 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja and Nandre Burger each taking two wickets.
Key Performances
On the SRH side, Praful Hinge took 3 wickets for 54 runs, while Nitish Kumar Reddy delivered the most economical spell, conceding just 12 runs in two overs. These efforts, however, were not enough to change the outcome of the match.
Rajasthan Royals now advance to Qualifier 2, having secured a 47-run victory. Their performance has set the stage for what promises to be an exciting continuation of the tournament. For SRH, the journey ends here, but their fight and determination will not be forgotten.
