Jenny Mollen’s Heartbreaking Essay on Disappointment and Loneliness After Shocking Split from Jason Biggs

Jenny Mollen has shared a deeply personal and emotional essay detailing her separation from Jason Biggs, marking a significant moment in her life. The 46-year-old actress, known for her role in Angel, took to her Substack page, The Best Friend Experience, to express her feelings following the decision to end their 18-year marriage.

Mollen and Biggs, the actor best known for his role in American Pie, announced their split on May 14 after an extensive relationship that included raising two sons, Sid, 12, and Lazlo, 8. In her essay titled “Don’t Tell Me What It Is,” she reflected on the challenges of maintaining a sense of fulfillment in life.

  • “When you’re young and ambitious, or maybe just middle-aged with ADHD, it feels impossible to appreciate anything while you’re in it,” she wrote. “I was in a rush to grow up, a rush to graduate college, a rush to land a TV show, and a billboard outside my ex-boyfriend’s apartment.”

Mollen described how moments of joy in her life often felt fleeting, like pennies disappearing into a bottomless well. She expressed a longing for validation and a sense of worth that had always eluded her.

  • “I’d wait — maybe a moment or two for the sound of something landing, but before it ever did, I was on to the next. Hoping that the next thing would finally be the one that cured me— the one that made me feel worthy and validated in a way that has always evaded me,” she added.

While she didn’t explicitly name Biggs, her essay clearly touched on the recent breakup. She humorously referenced Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love, noting that her upcoming trip to Italy felt reminiscent of the memoir, though she clarified it wasn’t about finding herself or meeting someone new.

  • “But I’m not going to find myself or sleep with some beautiful Italian stranger,” she quipped. “I already have two half-Italians at home. I’m actually just going because a friend invited me to her birthday party. It also happens to be my birthday as well [on May 30].”

Mollen and Biggs first met on the set of the 2008 film My Best Friend’s Girl and became engaged the same year. Despite their separation, they remain connected and are focused on co-parenting their children.

An insider told People earlier this month that the couple is “very much connected” and “doing great” in their co-parenting journey. They even celebrated Biggs’ birthday together on May 12.

The couple’s relationship has been marked by mutual respect and collaboration, both personally and professionally. Their shared experiences and commitment to their sons suggest that their bond remains strong, even after the end of their marriage.

Mollen’s essay offers a raw and honest reflection on the complexities of love, growth, and self-discovery. Her words resonate with anyone who has ever struggled with feeling fulfilled in life, highlighting the importance of taking time to appreciate the present.

As she prepares for her trip to Italy, Mollen seems to be embracing a new chapter, one that focuses on healing, reflection, and the support of friends and family.
