A Supportive Friendship During Challenging Times
Mandy Moore, the acclaimed actress known for her role in This Is Us, has shared a heartfelt story about the support she received from Hilary Duff during one of the most challenging periods of her life. The 42-year-old star revealed that Duff was there for her during her first pregnancy, which took place in late 2020 and early 2021. This time was particularly difficult due to the ongoing global pandemic, and Moore credits Duff with being a vital source of comfort and encouragement.
During an upcoming appearance on Amanda Hirsch’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Moore spoke about how her bond with Duff deepened as they both navigated the challenges of motherhood. The two stars were part of a close-knit group of celebrity moms, which gained some notoriety when Ashley Tisdale described it as “toxic” in an essay. However, Moore emphasized that Duff played a key role in creating a supportive environment for new mothers during the pandemic.

Moore shared that Duff welcomed a group of new mothers into her circle during a time marked by lockdowns and uncertainty. She recalled how Duff organized baby classes at her home, providing a safe space for parents to connect and support each other. Moore explained:
“We started with like baby music class when our kids were like little blobs just lying on the grass. It was so much fun.”
Duff, who is the mother of four children, became a central figure in creating a sense of community among parents. Moore described how this network helped many families cope with the isolation and anxiety of the pandemic.

Moore also reflected on the broader challenges of becoming a parent during the height of the pandemic. She described the fear and confusion that many parents experienced, saying:
“It was feeling incredibly confusing and scary to be, like, pregnant during that strange time that gave us all PTSD.”
Despite these challenges, Moore found strength in her friendship with Duff. Their relationship dates back several years, and Moore has spoken about how their bond has grown over time. In a conversation with Glamour in February, she discussed how their friendship developed after a chance meeting in 2018. Moore expressed gratitude for the alignment of values between herself and Duff, saying:
“I feel exceedingly lucky that my kids happen to spend time with people that I feel like our values are aligned with.”
She added that the friendships she has formed since becoming a parent have been some of the deepest and most meaningful in her life.
Moore is currently known for her role as Rebecca Pearson in This Is Us, while Duff remains best known for her work on the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire, as well as her role in the TV Land comedy Younger. She has also made a name for herself in the music industry with hits like Come Clean and So Yesterday.
As Moore continues to share her experiences and reflect on her journey as a mother, her story highlights the importance of support and connection during difficult times. The bond between her and Duff serves as a powerful reminder of the strength that can be found in friendship and community.
