Manly’s Faith in Kieran Foran
Manly has shown strong confidence in Kieran Foran by appointing him as the club’s head coach for the next three years, with his contract set to run through to the end of the 2029 season. This decision comes after Foran took on the role of caretaker coach following the sacking of Anthony Seibold in March.
Since assuming the head coaching position, Foran has led the Sea Eagles to seven wins out of nine matches, placing them fifth on the ladder. The club’s leadership has expressed their satisfaction with Foran’s performance during his interim period.
“We’ve been impressed with everything Kieran has done since taking on the interim role and are delighted to appoint him for the next three years,” said Scott Penn, the chair of the Sea Eagles, in a club statement. “The belief and passion he has instilled in the playing group has more than delivered on our expectations.”
Foran’s deep connection to the club, combined with his extensive playing experience and leadership qualities, has made him an ideal candidate to guide the Sea Eagles into the future. As a player, Foran won a premiership with the Sea Eagles in 2011 and played nearly 200 NRL matches for the club across two stints.
He made his NRL debut for the Sea Eagles in 2009 and also represented Parramatta, Warriors, Canterbury, and Gold Coast during his career.
“I’m truly honoured to be the head coach of a club that means so much to me, a club that has played a significant part in not just my footy career but my entire life,” Foran said. “I care deeply about this club, and I want what’s best for everyone involved in it. I will do everything within my power to make sure it’s a success.”
He added, “It’s been wonderful working with this group of players over the past few months and helping them to build belief is something I have really enjoyed.”
Connor Watson Joins PNG Chiefs
In another significant move, the PNG Chiefs have signed Connor Watson on a two-year deal. Watson, who is currently contracted to the Sydney Roosters, will join the Chiefs for the 2028 and 2029 seasons. Before making the switch, he will spend the 2027 season with St George Illawarra.
The Dragons confirmed Watson’s one-year deal on Wednesday. The utility player has already made an impact in State of Origin, featuring in five matches for NSW in 2024 and 2025.
Watson will join Jarome Luai and Alex Johnston on the Chiefs’ roster for their inaugural season. The club’s general manager of football, Michael Chammas, expressed his excitement about the signing.
“Connor has made it clear from the outset that he wanted to be part of the PNG Chiefs and this incredible journey we are building,” Chammas said. “Connor is the type of player every club wants. He is selfless, tough, professional and incredibly respected across the game.”
