Jason Momoa may only be making a brief appearance as Lobo in DC Studios’ upcoming ‘Supergirl‘ movie, but the actor is already thinking about where the fan-favorite antihero could go next. His enthusiasm makes it hard not to be excited.
After years of campaigning to play the intergalactic bounty hunter, Momoa is finally bringing Lobo to life in James Gunn’s DC Universe. The actor’s new remarks indicate that this is just the start of a much longer journey, as his debut will not be a starring role.
Jason Momoa Sees Lobo As More Than A One-Movie Character

When asked about his future in the DCU, Momoa said he’d be looking forward to eventually starring in a solo Lobo film. But he’s not in a rush to get there. “I mean, I think I’d like to, we talked about this, I’d love to do a solo film at some point.”

The actor feels that Lobo should be seen in a number of DCU projects first, and then take his own journey. He referenced Aquaman’s journey in the old DC universe of films, where he was first introduced with other heroes and then followed up with a solo film.
“I think it’d be great to step into a couple of other worlds first, like how we did with Aquaman.” That’s a way to give viewers time to get to know the character and get invested in a bigger story. He even teased that he’d like to meet other major DCU heroes, like Superman, before going head-to-head with them.
It’s a fascinating point of view, and one that mixes in nicely with the interconnected world that James Gunn is creating. DC Studios seems to be more interested in building up its characters first before it launches another franchise.
A Childhood Dream Finally Became Reality For Momoa With Lobo

The most important thing to take away from Momoa’s remarks is how much the r role is personally significant to him. The actor said it was “almost surreal” when he became Lobo.

“Like everything just came together, mind, body, soul, childhood, reading these comics, and you put everything together, and you’ve imagined it with all these other creative geniuses, and they build this character, and you put it all in.”
That excitement carried over onto the set. Momoa said he stayed in character between takes, and when the cameras were on, he was completely in Lobo’s skin. His passion may prove to be a huge help for DC Studios in the future.
It’s when comic-book characters are actually played by actors who love the original comic that fans tend to bond with them more. It’s clear that Momoa isn’t doing this as an isolated appearance; he may end up having a solo film or appearing in several DCU films. To him, ‘Supergirl’ is not the end, but the beginning of a much larger journey.
