Six Flags’ record-breaking roller coaster launches in Texas next week

Introducing the World’s First Giga Dive Coaster

Six Flags Over Texas is set to make history next week with the opening of the world’s first giga dive coaster. This thrilling new attraction, named Tormenta Rampaging Run, promises to break six world records and offer an unforgettable experience for adrenaline junkies.

Scheduled to open on June 26 in Arlington, the ride will be the centerpiece of Six Flags Over Texas’ 65th anniversary celebration. The coaster is inspired by Spain’s Running of the Bulls and is located in the Rancho de la Tormenta area of the park. It combines the scale of a giga coaster with the intense drops of a dive coaster, delivering a high-speed adventure that is sure to leave riders breathless.

A giga coaster is typically defined as a steel roller coaster that stands between 300 and 399 feet tall. These rides are built for speed, massive drops, sweeping turns, and airtime rather than inversions. The Tormenta Rampaging Run follows this design philosophy, offering a unique blend of excitement and engineering excellence.

Riders will begin their journey by climbing 309 feet before pausing at the edge. Just like waiting for the release of the bulls, the train will then release, plunging riders into a record-breaking 95-degree, beyond vertical drop. This drop is followed by sharp turns and other exhilarating drops that replicate the thrill of the running of the bulls.

The coaster features three rows of eight seats with over-the-shoulder restraints. Riders can expect to reach speeds up to 87 mph as they navigate through the ride. Additional highlights include a 285-foot drop, a 218-foot Immelman inversion, and the world’s tallest vertical loop, which reaches an impressive 179 feet. The ride continues with more twists, loops, and a final drop before coming to a stop.

To ensure safety, riders must be between 48 and 76 inches tall to board the Tormenta Rampaging Run. According to Six Flags, the coaster will break six world records, including the titles of tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster.

Mark Boyer, vice president and park manager of Six Flags Over Texas, expressed his excitement about the new ride. “Six Flags Over Texas has always been a leader in creating unforgettable experiences, and with Tormenta Rampaging Run, we are soaring to new heights,” he said in a statement. “This coaster is a true testament to our commitment to providing world-class thrills and innovation, and we can’t wait to bring this historic ride to life in 2026.”

A New Experience in Rancho de la Tormenta

Beyond the coaster itself, guests will also enjoy the reimagined Rancho de la Tormenta area. This immersive Spanish village features colorful banners, music, and themed attractions. The redesign includes the removal of three older rides: Conquistador, La Vibora, and El Diablo.

The new area is designed as an immersive Spanish village centered around a legendary bull named Tormenta, known for his strength and speed. Guests will find a variety of themed attractions and a new restaurant called Cocina Abuela. This restaurant offers Spanish and Latin American-inspired dishes such as Spanish rice, papas bravas, chicken tinga, and fresh guacamole.
