NBC unveils four new shows following eight cancellations

NBC’s 2026-2027 TV Lineup: A Major Shift in Programming

NBC has made significant changes to its upcoming television schedule for the 2026-2027 season. The network has added four new shows while quietly removing eight existing ones, including a popular Law & Order spinoff and Kelly Clarkson’s well-known daytime talk show. These adjustments reflect a broader strategy to reshape the network’s content offering.

The changes began earlier this year with the unexpected cancellation of Access Hollywood, a long-running entertainment news program. Since then, NBC has also decided to end three daytime talk shows—Karamo, The Steve Wilkos Show, and The Kelly Clarkson Show—as well as four scripted series: Law & Order: Organized Crime, medical drama Brilliant Minds, cheerleading mockumentary Stumble, and crime drama The Hunting Party.

This major overhaul is partly due to an 11-year deal with the NBA, which requires the network to make room for up to 100 regular-season games in the fall. Despite these cancellations, NBC is preparing to launch four new scripted originals in the coming months.

New Shows Set to Debut

Line of Fire

A family drama titled Line of Fire will air on Monday nights this fall. Starring Peter Krause and Hope Davis, the series follows the Hollingsworth family as they become involved in a deadly conspiracy after the death of a U.S. Marshal. The family, consisting of law enforcement agents, must use their professional skills to protect each other while trying to catch the killer.

Taylor Bloom and Tommy O’Brien play two of the adult Hollingsworth sons, Russ and Mike Jr., adding depth to the family dynamics.

Newlyweds

Real-life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly star in Newlyweds, a comedy that will air on Friday nights this fall. The series, also featuring Jamie Lee Curtis, revolves around a carefree woman and a tightly wound professor who get married after a whirlwind courtship. The show explores the challenges and humor of their late-in-life love story.

Sunset P.I.

In February 2027, the spring lineup will include Sunset P.I., a new comedy from the executive producers of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Led by Jake Johnson, known for his role in New Girl, and Jane Levy, who appeared in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, the series follows a group of unconventional private investigators in Los Angeles.

The Rockford Files

A modern retelling of the original 1970s detective drama The Rockford Files will premiere in January. The series stars David Boreanaz, best known for his role in Bones, as Jim Rockford, an ex-convict and private detective who solves crimes with the help of fellow ex-cons. The cast also includes Emmy-winning Australian actor Jacki Weaver.

Conclusion

NBC’s decision to refresh its programming reflects a strategic move to align with new partnerships and audience preferences. While some beloved shows have been removed, the addition of these four new series promises to bring fresh content to viewers. With a mix of dramas, comedies, and reimagined classics, the network is positioning itself for a dynamic 2026-2027 season.
