A Royal Stepfamily’s Bond Shines Amidst Royal Scandal
Princess Beatrice is finding solace and support within her blended family as a thoughtful Mother’s Day gesture from her nine-year-old stepson, Christopher ‘Wolfie’ Woolf Mapelli Mozzi, has come to light. This heartwarming moment unfolds against the backdrop of renewed public scrutiny concerning her parents’ controversial past associations.
Wolfie, the son of Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and his ex-fiancée Dara Huang, was captured on video meticulously crafting a special card for his stepmother. The footage, shared by Dara, offered a rare and intimate glimpse into Beatrice’s cherished role as a doting stepmother. In the video, Wolfie can be seen colouring intently while seated at a table on a train. Dara, 42, can be heard remarking, “I taught him how to draw a (bee emoji),” adding a personal touch to the creative process. This act of affection serves as a poignant reminder of the strong familial bonds that exist, even during periods of intense public pressure.

Navigating Scrutiny with Family Support
The tender gesture comes at a particularly challenging time for Princess Beatrice, 37. She, along with her sister Princess Eugenie, has been drawn further into a long-standing scandal involving their father, Prince Andrew, and his past connections with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Recent revelations, including a tranche of emails, have brought renewed attention to these associations.
Dara Huang and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, a property tycoon, were previously engaged and welcomed Wolfie in 2016. Although their relationship concluded in 2018, reports suggest that Edoardo and Dara maintain an amicable co-parenting relationship. Beatrice has embraced her role as a stepmother with open arms, and it appears this relationship is unaffected by the ongoing controversy.
The discovery that Epstein allegedly pushed for significant secret payments to be made to Beatrice and Eugenie, amounting to £100,000 (approximately $130,000 AUD) each, has intensified the public spotlight. These alleged payments were purportedly linked to Epstein’s efforts to promote the business interests of financier David Rowland and his son Jonathan, while Prince Andrew served as a trade envoy. Emails reportedly detail Prince Andrew discussing payments of £50,000 (approximately $66,000 AUD) to each of his daughters, with a further £300,000 (approximately $400,000 AUD) intended for himself.
These findings have raised questions about the source of the princesses’ affluent lifestyles in their twenties and whether such payments were made in exchange for their father’s influence. The controversy has cast a shadow over the futures of Beatrice and Eugenie, who have recently been keeping a low profile.

A Blended Family Embraces Their Own
Despite the external pressures, the bond between Beatrice, Wolfie, and Dara appears to be a source of strength. Dara Huang herself has spoken positively about Beatrice’s involvement in Wolfie’s life. In a 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she described the situation with warmth: “Wolfie has had two sets of parents trying to help him on both sides, and I just think, ‘The more, the merrier.’”
Beatrice has openly embraced her role as a stepmother, referring to Wolfie as her “bonus son.” She has actively integrated him into royal life, including his attendance at Kate Middleton’s Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey in December 2023. Beatrice has described becoming a stepmother as a “great honour” and shared how she cherished re-reading favourite stories with Wolfie during lockdown periods.

The marriage of Princess Beatrice to Edoardo in July 2020 marked a significant moment, as she became the first granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II to marry a partner with children. Wolfie has since become a familiar and welcome presence within the wider royal family. He made his first official appearance at a royal event during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in June 2022, celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne. He also spent Christmas at Sandringham in 2022, walking hand-in-hand with Edoardo and Beatrice to the annual service at St Mary Magdalene church.
Wolfie has also gained an additional grandmother in Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson. The former Duchess of York, 66, has frequently expressed her affection for her step-grandson, even including him in the dedications of her children’s book, ‘Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods.’ Ferguson shared, “I wrote Flora and Fern for my grandchildren and also my step grandson Wolfie. It is a special little story encouraging children to enjoy and respect nature and use their imagination to play.”

In November, reports indicated that Prince William had extended an offer to his cousins, suggesting an “ethics” check on their finances and investments, with King Charles also offering the assistance of a senior advisor. However, these offers of support and scrutiny were reportedly politely declined. The ongoing scrutiny surrounding their parents’ past has undoubtedly cast a long shadow, but for Princess Beatrice, the unwavering affection and support from her blended family, symbolised by a simple Mother’s Day card, offers a precious source of comfort and strength.
