French artificial intelligence (AI) company Mistral has secured a significant funding round of $830 million (€750 million) to establish a new data centre located near Paris. This ambitious project is set to be constructed in Bruyères-le-Châtel, a commune situated south of the city. The facility will be powered by over 13,000 NVIDIA chips, which are intended to support the training of Mistral’s AI models and increase its compute power to 44 megawatts (MW).
This level of energy consumption is approximately one and a half times greater than that of a conventional data centre, as estimated by the International Energy Agency (IEA). The substantial investment reflects the growing demand for high-performance computing infrastructure in the AI sector.
The funding was obtained from seven banks, with Mistral stating that this financial backing highlights the confidence these institutions have in the company’s vision. According to the firm, Europe requires a robust AI cloud infrastructure to remain competitive on the global stage.

Another key initiative involves the development of what could become the largest artificial intelligence campus in Europe. This project, planned for France, will be supported by NVIDIA and MGX, an investment fund from the United Arab Emirates. The campus is expected to have up to 1.4 gigawatts (GW) of power by 2030, further solidifying Mistral’s position as a leader in the AI space.
