High on Life 2 Delayed for Nintendo Switch 2
High on Life 2 was initially set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 in late April, but this plan has been quietly pushed back by over two months. Squanch Games has confirmed that the game will now be released on July 1, 2026. This decision comes as the studio aims to ensure the game meets its high standards before release.
In an official statement, Squanch Games explained:
“Greetings players! As the Squanch Games team continues to champion delivering the highest quality experiences, we have elected to (slightly) delay the release of High On Life 2 for Nintendo Switch 2. The additional elbow grease towards production will ultimately allow the studio to better meet not only our high standards for gaming, but yours as well.”
The original launch date of April 20 was chosen with care, as it aligned with the game’s unique premise and humor. In the story, aliens invade Earth and use humans as a recreational substance. However, this connection is now irrelevant due to the delay.
Players who have already preordered the digital version of High on Life 2 for the Switch 2 edition may need to preorder again. They will receive their refunds shortly. On the other hand, physical preorders will remain valid, and copies are still expected to ship around the new July release window.
Currently, High on Life 2 is available on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It also launched day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, allowing many players to experience the sequel already.
For Switch 2 users, the wait continues, but the delay is seen as necessary for the greater good.
Why the Switch 2 Version Needs More Time
Bringing a game like High on Life 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2 is more challenging than other consoles. This is partly because the Switch 2 is a relatively new console, requiring additional optimization for a direct port.
High on Life 2 is a graphically demanding title, built on Unreal Engine 5. The game uses advanced features such as DLSS, Lumen, and Nanite to maintain performance and visual fidelity. These features can be difficult to optimize across different hardware.
Squanch Games may also need to account for platform-specific features, such as Joy-Con 2 mouse input and higher docked resolution targets. However, no official technical reasons have been provided for the delay.
There is added pressure given how the sequel has been received so far. While not perfect, the game has been seen as an improvement over its predecessor, with stronger ideas and better execution. This makes the Switch 2 version an important release, especially for players who skipped other platforms.
Additional Considerations
The delay allows Squanch Games to focus on refining the game further. This includes ensuring that all features work smoothly on the Switch 2. The studio has emphasized its commitment to delivering a high-quality experience, which is crucial for maintaining player satisfaction.
Players who are eager to try the game on Switch 2 may find the wait worthwhile. The additional time could lead to a more polished and enjoyable experience, which is essential for a game with such a unique concept.
As the release date approaches, fans can expect more updates from Squanch Games regarding the game’s development and any changes made during the delay.
