Young Pacer’s Rehabilitation Journey
The young pacer of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Harshit Rana, has checked into the Board of Control for India’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) and is showing consistent progress in his rehabilitation journey. The 24-year-old fast bowler was ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2026 due to surgery on his knee performed earlier this year.
According to recent reports, Rana reported to the BCCI CoE three days ago, and the fast bowler has already responded well in the recovering stage. Furthermore, the pacer’s knee is healing faster than anticipated, which serves as an excellent sign for both the player and the franchise.
Injury and Impact on Career
Rana had picked up the injury while India was warming up for the T20 World Cup match against South Africa. While playing against the Proteas, the pacer felt a discomfort in his right knee after bowling just the first over. What was believed to be a minor injury initially worsened as Rana was ruled out for surgery in February, which resulted in him missing the tournament and India winning the event.
Fitness Concerns for Comeback
While his knee recovery is progressing well, the main obstacle for the bowler at the moment appears to be fitness. According to the same report, Rana has gained weight during his time off the field and it will be an issue in making his way back in.
A source close to the development revealed:
“Harshit checked into the CoE three days back. He is doing well and his knee is recovering faster than expected. He has gained a bit of weight, which means that his fitness is a bit of a concern. He will need to work on his fitness.”
Squad Changes and Team Performance
So far, Rana has been replaced by Navdeep Saini in the playing eleven. Another important fast bowler missing from the squad at the moment is Matheesha Pathirana, who will be joining them later this month.
Challenges Faced by the Team
Key bowlers are in the injury room at the moment and it has reflected in their results. The team has been winless so far, losing three, with one washout, they sit at the bottom half of the table with nine points.
