New Era at Tottenham
Roberto De Zerbi has set his sights on restoring the pride of Tottenham Hotspur. He has committed to a long-term future with the club, aiming to take them to the top of the Premier League and deliver the kind of exciting football that fans have come to love under previous manager Ange Postecoglou.
De Zerbi’s first match as Spurs boss will be against Sunderland on Sunday, and he has already signed a five-year contract without a relegation escape clause. This shows his confidence in the club’s potential and his determination to build something lasting.
“In my plan for sure there is the idea to stay for a long time,” said the 46-year-old Italian. “To try to put Tottenham – and I’m not speaking about the titles because it’s not the right moment now – but to put Tottenham to stay in the first position in the Premier League because everything is here to reach that level.”
Playing Style and Squad Potential
De Zerbi wants to implement an attacking style of play and believes the players are capable of executing this successfully.
“I want to keep the ball,” he said. “I want to see again the Tottenham I watched with Postecoglou. In my second season in Brighton, there was Postecoglou here with a lot of these players and it was one of the best teams in terms of quality of play.”

He highlighted several key players such as Pedro Porro, Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven, and Cristian Romero, expressing his desire to see the same level of performance from the squad.
“The DNA of this club, of this squad is to find the goal, to score!” he added.
Immediate Challenges
Despite his ambitious vision, the most pressing issue for Tottenham is avoiding relegation. The team has been winless in 13 Premier League games, a poor run that started in December. They have also had three different managers this season, following the sacking of Thomas Frank in February and Igor Tudor six weeks later.
“I do not think I am better than Thomas Frank or Igor Tudor, because I consider them very good coaches,” said De Zerbi. “I try to bring my style, myself, my character, my personality, my passion, to help the players first to show their qualities, because they have a lot of qualities.”
“And then to achieve our target, because the most important part now is our target. Now I have to work. Now we have to make points.”
Key Players and Tactical Approach
De Zerbi has outlined his plans for the squad, emphasizing the need to focus on immediate results while building a long-term vision. His approach includes:
- A commitment to playing attractive, attacking football that showcases the talents of the players.
- A belief in the current squad’s ability to perform at a high level, drawing on the success seen under Postecoglou.
- A focus on improving the team’s performance in the short term to secure their place in the Premier League.
De Zerbi’s arrival marks a new chapter for Tottenham, and fans are eager to see how his philosophy will translate into results on the pitch. With a clear plan and a strong belief in the squad, he aims to bring both success and excitement back to White Hart Lane.
