A Triumph of Resilience and Determination
The crowning of 22-year-old Zanele Moyo as Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2026 is being celebrated as a remarkable achievement, not just for the young woman but for the entire nation. Her victory symbolizes the power of resilience, determination, and an unwavering belief in one’s dreams.
However, beneath the glitz and glamour of the title lies a story of struggle and perseverance. Zanele’s journey to the crown was far from easy. It was marked by financial constraints that threatened to derail her campaign before it even began. Despite these challenges, she managed to rise above them, proving that with enough heart and effort, anything is possible.
According to her campaign manager, Thabani Ndlovu, the path to the crown was devoid of the usual support systems. There was no budget, no formal blueprint—just a young woman with a dream and a small team driven by faith and passion. The campaign relied heavily on the support of family, friends, and even strangers who believed in Zanele’s vision.
Overcoming Obstacles
Ndlovu shared some of the difficulties they faced along the way. “There were days we wondered how we would afford transport to the next rehearsal, and days when ‘make a plan’ was our only strategy,” he said. Family members became drivers, makeup artists, and prayer warriors, while friends stepped up as fundraisers. Strangers turned into supporters, helping to keep the campaign alive.
“The road to this crown was paved with sacrifice, hard work, perseverance, and determination,” Ndlovu added. He concluded by appealing for sponsorship to help fund Zanele’s next steps as she prepares to represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Tourism International pageant.
A Call for Revitalization
Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor David Coltart, has praised Zanele’s achievement and called for renewed efforts to revitalize the city’s tourism and cultural economy. At a press conference marking Moyo’s homecoming, Coltart emphasized the need for innovation in revitalizing the city’s industrial base and urged stakeholders to leverage tourism as a key driver of growth.
“We need to think outside the box and identify where the low-hanging fruit is, where we can take advantage to inspire change and growth in our city,” said Coltart. He highlighted the rich history of Bulawayo, pointing to landmarks such as Khami Ruins, Mzilikazi and Lobengula, the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe, and the Bulawayo Railway Museum. These sites, he believes, should be used to promote the city and its environment.
Carrying the Hopes of a Nation
Zanele Moyo expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout the journey. “Standing before you as Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, I carry the story of a nation, but I do not stand here alone,” she said. She acknowledged the team that believed in the Zimbabwe brand and thanked everyone who stood by her since the beginning.
Her win is more than just a personal achievement; it is a reflection of the spirit and potential of Zimbabwe. As she prepares to compete on the global stage, Zanele carries with her the hopes and aspirations of her country.
Looking Ahead
As Zanele embarks on her new journey, the support from her community and the encouragement from local leaders like Mayor Coltart will play a crucial role in her success. Her story serves as an inspiration to many, showing that with perseverance and unity, even the most challenging obstacles can be overcome.
The road ahead may be long, but with the backing of a determined team and the support of the people, Zanele Moyo is well-equipped to represent Zimbabwe with pride and dignity.
