A New Hope for the Homeless: Everlasting Fountain Welfare Initiative Launches Shelter in Ogun State
The Everlasting Fountain Welfare Initiative has announced a groundbreaking project aimed at addressing the growing issue of homelessness in Nigeria. The initiative, led by founder Abiola Adeniyi, plans to construct a 500-capacity shelter in Ogun State, which will also include a training centre designed to empower individuals with essential skills.
The project was officially launched during a ceremony held in Obafe town on Saturday. The shelter will be built on seven acres of land and is expected to serve as more than just a place to sleep—it will act as a rehabilitation centre, helping individuals regain their sense of purpose and build a better future.
A Vision Rooted in Personal Experience
Adeniyi shared that her inspiration came from both her childhood experiences and the increasing number of Nigerians facing homelessness. “People struggle not just because of what they will eat today, but because of uncertainty about tomorrow,” she said. “This inspired us to act, to restore hope, reintegrate lives, and support those in need.”
Since 2021, the foundation has been actively working through its ‘Youth Against Idleness’ programme in Magboro, where it has provided accommodation, paid school fees, and supported many vulnerable individuals. Now, with the new shelter, the initiative aims to expand its impact by offering long-term solutions.
Skills Development and Rehabilitation
The shelter will provide a range of training opportunities, enabling beneficiaries to acquire useful skills that can help them become productive members of society. Adeniyi emphasized that the goal is to help individuals who have lost their way find their purpose again.
In addition to the shelter, the foundation also plans to establish a farming institute as part of the project. This institute will focus on training individuals in livestock management and other areas of agriculture, providing them with practical skills that can lead to sustainable livelihoods.
Inclusivity and Support
Adeniyi stressed that the selection process for beneficiaries will be free from religious discrimination. She also called on both the federal and state governments to support non-governmental organizations that are working to uplift the most vulnerable members of society.
She expressed gratitude to her church, New Covenant Church, and the volunteers who have contributed to the project. Adeniyi also pledged transparency in managing donations received from the public, ensuring that every contribution is used effectively.
A Dream Realized
Victor Adeniyi, the patron of the foundation, described the project as a dream realized through collective effort and divine support. “What started as a dream in our bedroom has now become a reality, and we give all glory to God,” he said.
He praised the support from members of New Covenant Church and highlighted the importance of the project in creating a sanctuary for the homeless and less privileged. “The Everlasting Shelters project is envisioned as a sanctuary for the homeless and less privileged—a place of restoration, empowerment, and renewed purpose for individuals seeking a better future,” he added.
Looking Ahead
With the official launch of the shelter, the Everlasting Fountain Welfare Initiative is setting a strong foundation for change in Ogun State. The combination of housing, skill development, and agricultural training offers a comprehensive approach to tackling homelessness and empowering those in need.
As the project moves forward, the foundation remains committed to its mission of restoring hope and building a brighter future for the most vulnerable members of society. With continued support from the community and government, this initiative has the potential to become a model for similar efforts across Nigeria.
