Gueye, Oura, Mpanzu Lead Simba to Dominant Win, Pressure Yanga

Simba SC Secures Crucial Victory in Tanzanian Premier League

In a commanding display of skill and strategy, Simba SC emerged victorious against Namungo FC with a 3-1 win at Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi on April 19, 2026. This triumph marked their 12th victory of the Mainland Tanzania Premier League season, solidifying their position as serious contenders for the title.

Early Dominance and Tactical Precision

From the outset, Simba SC showcased their superiority on the pitch. In the 11th minute, Libase Gueye opened the scoring after an excellent assist from Anicet Oura, setting the tone for the match. The duo continued to impress, combining once again in the 25th minute when Oura capitalized on a well-executed play to double the lead.

Namungo FC, however, responded with determination before halftime. In the 34th minute, Heritier Makambo converted a penalty after Yusuf Kagoma was penalized for handling the ball inside the box. Despite this setback, Simba maintained a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

A Strong Second Half Performance

The second half saw Simba SC continue to control the game’s tempo. In the 74th minute, Ellie Mpanzu delivered a powerful strike from outside the box, restoring Simba’s two-goal advantage. The team’s defense proved resilient under pressure, clearing all dangerous attempts by Namungo to ensure a clean sheet.

This victory has kept Simba firmly in the title race, currently sitting second in the league table with 42 points from 19 matches. They are just five points behind leaders Young Africans (Yanga), who have 47 points from the same number of games. Azam FC follow in third place with 37 points, while Singida Black Stars occupy fourth with 29 points.

League Break for Union Cup Participation

The league will take a 10-day break to accommodate four clubs participating in the Union Cup, which is set to begin on April 21, 2026, in Zanzibar. The teams involved are Yanga, the defending Union Cup champions, along with Simba S.C., Azam FC, and Singida Black Stars. This temporary pause shifts focus to the regional competition, adding excitement to the football calendar.

Intense Relegation Battle

While the title race remains competitive, the relegation battle is equally intense. KMC sit at the bottom of the table with nine points from 19 matches, while Tanzania Prisons are 15th with 14 points from the same number of games. Mbeya City are also in danger, placed 14th with 17 points after 19 fixtures, closely followed by Fountain Gate FC, who are 13th with 19 points.

As the season approaches its decisive stage, the pressure at the bottom of the table continues to mount, with teams fighting to avoid the drop in the remaining fixtures.

Return of League Fixtures

League action is set to resume on April 30 with a busy schedule across different venues. Fountain Gate FC will host Pamba Jiji FC at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha from 2pm. Later in the day, Mbeya City will face Mashujaa FC at the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium from 4:15pm, before JKT Tanzania take on KMC at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam at 6:30pm.

With the Union Cup adding a temporary pause to domestic action, the return of league fixtures is expected to intensify both the title race and relegation battle as the season reaches its climax.
