Nicole Kidman Shares Insights on Parenting Teenage Daughters
Nicole Kidman, the acclaimed Australian actress, has shared some heartfelt insights into her parenting journey, particularly when it comes to raising her teenage daughters. During a live conversation with Hoda Kotb at the HISTORYTalks speaker series in Philadelphia on April 18, the 58-year-old star revealed a unique daily habit she insists on from her children.
Kidman laughed as she admitted, “Both my daughters will kill me for saying this.” She then explained that her daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15, must give her a hug every single day. “I’m like, ‘You need to hug [me] for two minutes a day,’” she said with a smile.
She added, “It releases certain chemicals in the body, and everyone needs to be hugged for about two minutes a day. Did you know that?” she asked the audience, highlighting the importance of physical touch in maintaining strong family bonds.
The actress also shared how close she is with her daughters, noting, “We’re so close, the three of us, we talk about everything.” This connection is clearly evident in their relationship, which has been nurtured over the years.
The Importance of Small Moments
Kidman described parenting teenagers as an “extraordinary” experience, emphasizing the value of small, meaningful moments. She shared a touching example: “It means sitting on the end of their bed, when they say, ‘Come in here, sit down.’ And you go in, and you’re exhausted, and you sit down and you listen.”
She continued, “And I always say, ‘Do you want me to give you advice now, or are you just sort of venting?’” According to Kidman, the response is usually clear. “Primarily I get told no advice,” she said with a laugh, adding, “90 percent of the time.”
A Family with Multiple Children
In addition to Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, Kidman shares adult children Bella, 33, and son Connor, 31, with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. Her family life is filled with love and support, and she often speaks about the importance of being present for her children.
