Bhuvi-Hazlewood Shines as RCB Secures 9-Wicket Victory in Kohli’s Backyard

A Dominant Performance by Royal Challengers Bengaluru

In a thrilling encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered an all-round performance to defeat the Delhi Capitals (DC). The match was marked by a dramatic batting collapse from DC, which allowed RCB to chase down a modest total of 76 runs with ease. Virat Kohli, along with Devdutt Padikkal, played a crucial role in the victory, securing a nine-wicket win for their team. This result saw DC remain in seventh place, while RCB moved back to second in the IPL points table.

DC’s Batting Collapse

The innings of Delhi Capitals was defined by a severe top-order collapse, as they were bundled out for just 75 runs in 16.3 overs. The damage was done almost entirely during the powerplay, with six wickets falling for just 8 runs within the first four overs. This was one of the most significant top-order breakdowns in IPL history. Debutant Sahil Parakh, KL Rahul, Sameer Rizvi, captain Axar Patel, and Nitish Rana all fell for single-digit scores, contributing a combined total of just 2 runs off 18 balls.

The collapse was fueled by a relentless new-ball spell from RCB’s bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took three wickets for just 5 runs in three overs, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 1.66. Josh Hazlewood also played a key role, taking four wickets in 3.3 overs, conceding only 12 runs. Together, they bowled 30 dot balls, effectively shutting down any scoring opportunities for DC. By the end of the powerplay, DC had recorded the lowest powerplay score in IPL history, reaching just 13 for 6.

Amid the chaos, Abishek Porel emerged as the lone contributor for DC. He scored 30 runs off 33 balls, accounting for 40% of the team’s total. David Miller added 19 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup managed only 26 runs collectively, highlighting the severity of the collapse. Suyash Sharma further tightened the grip in the middle overs, conceding just 7 runs in four overs with 20 dot balls.

RCB’s Aggressive Chase

In contrast to DC’s struggles, the chase of 76 runs unfolded at a much faster pace. RCB reached the target in just 6.3 overs, showcasing their aggressive approach. The innings began with Jacob Bethell’s brisk 20 runs off 11 balls, setting the tone for the rest of the partnership. The momentum was then carried forward by an unbroken stand between Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal.

Padikkal’s 34 runs off 13 deliveries came at a strike rate of 261.53, featuring six boundaries. Kohli remained unbeaten on 23 from 15 balls, ensuring that there was no slowdown in the chase. The pair added 51 runs in just 22 balls, demonstrating their ability to accelerate when needed.

Delhi’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring rate, with Kyle Jamieson conceding 42 runs in his three overs. The overall run rate of 11.84 highlighted the stark contrast between the two innings, as RCB’s batters required only 39 deliveries to surpass DC’s total. This comprehensive victory showcased the depth and strength of RCB’s batting lineup, as well as their ability to capitalize on the opposition’s weaknesses.
