Charlie Quirke’s emotional London Marathon run captured in snaps

A Heartfelt Journey for Dementia Research

Pauline Quirke’s son, Charlie, has taken on a significant challenge to raise awareness and funds for dementia research. This year, he ran the London Marathon alongside his fiancée Chloe Thornton and close friend Jack O’Connell as part of ‘Team Quirke’. Their efforts were in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK, following Pauline’s diagnosis with dementia in 2021.

Charlie, 31, is determined to make a difference after witnessing the impact of the condition on his mother, who is 66 years old. The London Marathon, a 26.2-mile race around the capital, was a tough but rewarding experience for the team. As of now, they have raised over £11,000, with the goal of reaching £15,000.

Charlie shared a series of photos on social media to commemorate the event, including a moment of celebration with Chloe and a group photo with Team Quirke. He wrote: “London Marathon ✅ Tough is an understatement. But so proud of what we all achieved & a great day with my loved ones all for @Alzheimerreasearchuk.”

A Supportive Team and Personal Motivation

Charlie’s motivation for running came from a desire to make his mother proud. He explained that he felt comfortable only if Chloe and James could join him, as they are the two people closest to him. Once they agreed, he formed Team Quirke and invited some of his best friends to participate.

The team included not only close friends but also individuals who had worked with Pauline in the past. Among them were Luke Roskell, who worked with her on Emmerdale, and Adam Long from Waterloo Road. Additionally, Andrew Knott from Gavin & Stacey and sports broadcaster James Sharman were part of the group.

Generous Contributions and Past Achievements

The support from the public has been overwhelming. James Corden donated £2,000, and Dominic Cooper contributed £500. These donations have helped the team exceed their initial target of £10,000, leading them to set a new goal of £15,000.

In previous challenges, Charlie has shown his commitment to the cause. Last year, he walked 140km over five days to raise funds for Alzheimer Research UK. His efforts were successful, and he managed to raise approximately £175,000 for dementia research.

During this challenge, Pauline’s ex-castmate surprised Charlie during day two of the ‘Trek For A Cure’ challenge. Actors Mathew Baynton, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Perry Benson joined him on a soggy start to the second day of his journey.

Reconnecting with Memories

Charlie also retraced the footsteps of Birds Of A Feather star by visiting places that are significant to his mother. This journey down memory lane was both emotional and meaningful, highlighting the deep connection between Charlie and his family.

Through these efforts, Charlie continues to raise awareness about dementia and inspire others to support the cause. His dedication and the support from his team and the public demonstrate the power of community in making a difference.
