Delhi Capitals’ Unusual Low of 75 Runs in First Innings Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru

A Disappointing Performance by Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals faced a challenging day at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 27 when they chose to bat against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The team’s performance was far from ideal, as they managed only 75 runs in their innings. Axar Patel, who was expected to be a key player, was dismissed for a duck, adding to the frustration of the DC supporters.

Abhishiek Porel played a crucial role in keeping the innings going, but the rest of the team struggled significantly. This low score marked another significant low in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was the second-lowest score recorded since the introduction of the impact substitute rule, with RCB still holding the record for the lowest score at 59 runs.

Earlier in the season, Delhi Capitals had already set a new low by scoring just 13 runs and losing 6 wickets in the powerplay. This was the lowest score ever recorded in the powerplay phase of an IPL match.

A Dominant Bowling Performance by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood

The collapse of Delhi Capitals was dramatic, as they were bowled out for 75 in 16.3 overs after a disastrous start. The team was reduced to 8/6 within four overs, which set the tone for the rest of their innings.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the charge with an impressive performance, taking 3 wickets for just 5 runs in three overs. His consistency and skill were evident throughout the match. Josh Hazlewood also played a vital role, ripping through the middle order with 4 wickets for 12 runs.

Abishek Porel was the lone fighter for DC, scoring 30 runs off 33 balls. David Miller contributed 19 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to reach double digits, leading to a quick collapse.

Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya maintained the pressure, ensuring that DC could not recover from their early setbacks. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s performance was exceptional, and he climbed to the top of the wicket charts, securing the Purple Cap with 14 wickets in 8 matches. His average of 16.85 and an economy rate of 7.69 highlight his consistency this season.
